Servicing bearings?

 Does it hurt the value of a sandcast to drill the stakes and replace wheel bearings? The ones I can see are pretty dry on the backside. Other options?

My opinion is that it doesn't hurt anything.  For one thing I think it's better to have good bearings.  If you don't drill too much and replace the retainer and restake using the same holes in the hub you can hardly tell anyway.
