I inquired about the frame this engine was taken out of. This is truly strange.

The title says:
CB7501001896 (a good match for the engine)

The frame number is:
CB75010011896

Look at that number carefully. It fooled me for a second. Was this frame an anomaly from day one or as suggested by the owner, maybe a replacement frame that was mis-stamped?

I asked the seller to post some pictures of the frame.

I had inquired about the frame too.  Maybe this is the same reply you got Wayne but here's the reply I got.

"Just an update on the frame. The number on the title is CB7501001896. The number on the frame is CB75010011896. After talking with a couple of Honda dealerships and a couple of knowledgeable sandcast owners the general consensus is that this frame was probably a replacement frame from Honda and that the dealer that replaced it made a mistake when they stamped the numbers on it. If you still have an interest in it or any questions or would like to see pictures of the serial numbers please email me at kddot66@yahoo.com.
Thanks Todd"

Even if it is a replacement frame it might not have the left side horn mounting.  I asked him to check for that because for sure it would be the early sandcast frame.  Either way, yes, strange.

Wayne and Mark,

if this history is confirmed we now we know that the dealer they could ask the restamp for the frame with the original numbers.

But the dealer they could demand also the restamp of the numbers of an engine?  :o :o :o

I dont think to a strange coincidence or an error of dealer in indicating the numbers printing, in the Honda factory has perhaps added a 1 in order to demonstrate that it was a replaced frame.

We know also that the engines was punched with three little signs when was repaired on callbacks of Honda.

So at this point, what we must think about sandcast French the 14060/14143?  ??? ??? ???

Perhaps it was 4060/4143?  ??? ??? ???

Sure it was practical a little diffuse one, sure concurred -little times- to very very important dealers.

Sorry, i've only put the wings to my imagination.

Any way you put it, I think the frame is the right one for the bike. Any buyer should try and pick them up as a pair.

(I'm not in the bidding)  ;D

Wow, went for $4150!  Interesting ending.  Jumped from $2225 to $4150 in the last 5 seconds.  There was only 5 bidders to that point and the sixth bidder jumped in at the end but got beat out by a previous bidder.  Based on this price I got a great deal on 1490 with the 28's.  :)

That is a WOW! I'm guessing if the buyer can get that frame to go along with it one would have a very interesting piece. How many sandys are there out there with the correct VIN albeit an extra digit added in?

Obviously it would be optimal to have the original matching frame and motor but maybe he already had a frame he was trying to match an engine with and it made it a lot more valuable to him. Just speculation on my part. That was the highest price I have seen for just an engine in the past couple of years.

Who's to say that the extra "1" wasn't always in the frame VIN and overlooked? It just seems very strange to me that a frame would show up with the extra digit. Did anyne get pic's?
