Honda CB750 Sandcast

Our 2nd Sandcast - 2469 Miles on it ? - Frame 703 Engine 638

On our way home from a 3 day trip to pick up Sandcast 703 / E638

Same owner since 1970 and stored in his home since 1971.

Appears to be in nice original condition, some fading and a few things needs correction or replacement.

Still restoring #6225, comments from the Experts are welcome.

Incredible find. Would like to see more pics too.

I bet another sandcast with not-painted engine.

Great find! Good for you!
The one obvious thing I see are the front brake lines have been replaced by dates seen in photos, and the air box is not original.
One piece of advice, replace the side cover rubber grommets with new ones first, but be very very careful removing the originals as they become very brittle. Be sure to pull the bottom tab off first and then carefull work the sides off. Spray the tabs with WD40 before trying to remove the covers.
I would love to see more photos of the entire bike, with handlebar controls.

Nice 3 number sandcast!  Any history on the bike - where it was found and engine condition?

Hi all,

Thanks for the comments,included are additional photos.

History on the bike is : Two owners before me.  In 1970 The 1st owner sold it to his friend ( the person I purchase it from).

In 1971 it was put into a basement and never started again until 2011. At that time there was some work done on it ( Carb rebuild and a few broken things fixed)  Collector plates and a few miles were put on it , then it went back into storage. It has not been started since 2011.

The paint on the frame is in great shape, no rust, no paint chips.

What I know is wrong includes:
Some foam was removed from the seat, Tank emblems were polished removing the black, chromed side stand ( I assume they were never chrome), Baffles removed, valve cover bolts were changed, Right control switch has been changed, wrong hand grips.

Questions I have are : Is HM300 correct for the pipes or should they be No-Number ?

We will be working to replace the items that are not correct and bring the bike it true "survivor" class.

Carl,
The exhaust that would be correct for the bike are the Lotus Root no number exhausts, H300 were not available at this stage of production. Looking at handlebars, there would not have been a rubber boot on the master cylinder front brake line connection from the factory.  Check your master cylinder reservoir and see it it has a fluid line indicator on the inside.
Can you send better photos of the tach and speedo undersides, with cable ferrules.

Nice Survivor for sure.  My sandcast is only a few numbers from your.  Maybe they were both shipped in the same lot from Japan.

Alternator cover is not sandcast part but from a later model.
