General Discussion / my most recent blunder. seat'
« on: August 20, 2011, 09:41:14 pm »
Gents, a little help please, My SC. (1400/1355) came to me with a "flat" seat. it had a small tear in the rider butt area,  and has "dandruff" issues at the seat pan/foam holes. hinge points and latch appear to be as OE. and fit is good.  My intent was to "splice" In  the "duck tail" padding and "arieated" sections of foam from bits of other seats on hand, shape and re-cover with a repro "duck tail" cover. Alas, my 1st cover (from Z1 Ent.) was again for the flat seat. no biggie, I explained prob, & they sent me a "duck tail" cover in good time. Problem is, this cover, while correct for "pocket" and "pressings"  is roughly 2 inches short in overall length. If some one could simply give a rough measurement from the  front to rear length of a duck tail seat pan, or knows the differnces it would help me in my quest. Thanks G

Paint - Badges and Component Refinishing / tank emblems
« on: June 02, 2011, 10:06:22 pm »
A little help please. I have 2 sets of gas tank emblems. 1 set is in sittu  on  what I believe to be an un-molested  K1 tank,(non-wrinkle. r/h cock, 4 nickel, ruby red, painted  stripe,) It has "zits" between the letters. and the letters are filled in white... The 2nd set,  of unknown year tho OE, has "dimples" within letters, smooth bridges between letters, and also has white paint within letters. the mounting posts correspond with my "recent aquisition" wrinkle tank.the "bases" of all emblems are silver. In reading previous posts, there is a note that a posted pic.is incorrect tho it has "dimples " within letters...& a reference (lost) to yami. for correct.. What am I missing ? Can I "paint" my "lettered dimples' emblems in black  and "Detail/strip" the chrome outlines, ? or is there anouther  configuration out there. Thanks in advance,, G

Fuel (gas - petrol) Tanks, Side Covers and Air Box / Gas tanks
« on: April 19, 2011, 09:46:56 pm »
Hi, I need Info on tanks. I have 2 which have petcocks on the r/h side. both have only 2 "quarter" stamps on their bottoms, neither have "wrinkles" which can be discerned through gas cap opening. Indeed, the only "wrinkles" are abreast the petcock area. 1 tank has the remnants of OE red paint, & what I think to be correct gold w/black stripe 69-70 accent. it has sun faded to silver across the top, & has a "leg dent" &  2nd degree rust, the other I've "acid treated" & is  rust free. I stripped to bare metal, then "bondoed"  a couple "dime sized" dings @ 2 years ago. aged for a couple months,  & primed....  & have let "set" in prime to date... primer is smooth  & no recurance of rust. I have (to my knowledge)"correct" fork ears,H/L bucket & side covers & airbox halves  which came with the bike 20+ years ago. & have been riding A'LA with just my own aproximation  of OE paint.... I've managed to garner gas cap, petcock,& trim...BUT,, before I pull the trigger on what I consider a "expensive" paint job, I need to know, "DO I HAVE A PROPPER TANK" The pic/s I see when "sandcast" bikes go for auction show "wrinkles"directly below cap, are these "pre-teen" tanks?  Is there a "primer" availible to compare to ?  Am I asking the right questions? any help would be much appreciated. thanks g

Gents, Provided I am accepted, I go by Gane,,  I am an avid motorcyclist, and a "sandcast" owner, My reason for "joining" is to garner knowlege of this particular M/C..  More exactly, what is "correct".. I'm a "tech" and have been working at multi-line dealerships since 1976.  I hold certs for honda, kaw, suz, yam, polaris. &ase. Mostly I just keep my trap shut, Tho every once in a while experiance  or insight on a particular problem may be useful, I'm  happy to help if i can, G
