Title: Gauge/instrument restoration
Post by: chrisnoel on June 16, 2013, 06:19:16 pm
Just getting into my gauges and figured I'd share a little of what I've discovered.  The housings, lenses and face plates available from the link on this site are very nice... Worth every penny and then some.
If you can get hold of some shrink that works on the ignition wires it will also work on the instrument wires as well as the control wires.  I can get some if you need.  Mine is a little more sturdy than original but it looks the part and is glossy.
Needed new needles in my gauges so I went to the junk yard for later ones as they look the same up to 1976.  They are not the same.  The sandcast ones have a little shorter pivot point round tube, are more narrow at the pin they ride on and they appear to be made better.  I was able to repair my original bent one with one of the junk yard needles.
