« on: January 24, 2016, 02:49:38 am »
Some years ago I got hold of quite a few Viton  'O' rings (46 x 2)  for the oil pump and gave a way some to members on here.
Now found a Honda part that is the correct size

General Discussion / Yamiya Pricing .. OEM Suppliers to Honda
« on: January 05, 2016, 04:17:12 am »
I just ordered some parts directly from Yamiya, which I had brought over from Japan via someones suitcase !

I put the prices onto a spreadsheet and compared with UK suppliers etc.

There are some amazing price differences (even adding UK VAT and import duty costs) particularly on Genuine Honda fasteners/bearings/chains etc

One example is Yamiya '14- HONDA CB750 NUT, 8mm CYLINDER HEAD'  ... Over 600% difference in price between Yamiya and David Silver in the UK ( Yamiya parts are individually plastic bagged Genuine Honda parts)

The following is not strictly sandcast / K0 related, so please remove if you consider it inappropriate Steve  ;)

I just noticed that my original 03/ 1971  CB500K0 seat foam has 'Bridgestone 164B02 or is it 164802' printed on it in blue ink  plus 323 922A embossed into it. So I guess BS must have been an OEM supplier of the foams to Honda. I wonder if they supplied the red foam material too?

Also noticed on my CB750K0 wiring loom that each coloured wire has 'Sumitomo 1969' printed on them in tiny text.

Other Honda  Suppliers OEM's  I know of are as follows . Can anyone add to the list?

Hitachi & Nippon Denso for alternators/regulators/Solenoid switches/flasher relays
Riken for piston rings.
ART ….  Pistons,
Yuasa for batteries,
Nippon Denso/Nippon Seiki/Fuji .....for clocks.
D.I.D. ..... Chains /wheel rims
Sankei ..Exhaust Systems,
Daido Metal ....Crankshaft Shell bearings,

Stanley Electric .... Lighting,
ASK .... Brake linings.

Nippon Oil & Fats... CandyTone  paint,
KeiHin ...carbs,
NGK/  ND  Spark plugs
Showa ...suspension components.
Mitsubishi ... ..CB750 sandcast / K0  Valves  (CB500 too)
ARAI/ N.O.K.... oil seals
NTN  & Nachi & Koyo... bearings
Mitsuba..... Horn & Starter Motors
Oil Filter element .... Tokyo Roki
Takasago ... Sandcast/K0 primary chains
Tec/ Toyo .... Sandcast/K0 Bar switches / Ignition Switches
Toyosha .. Sandcast /early K0 'Antimon' alloy tank filler cap.

The Yamiya repro shocks they say have the correct spring and made by the original supplier. Anyone bought them and can confirm they are correct.

General Discussion / Yamiya Satin Chrome heatshields
« on: July 01, 2015, 02:18:19 am »
Before I try refinishing a set of new shiny chrome Genuine Honda heatshields to look like satin chrome. Does anyone know what the quality of the Yamiya replicas is like?

Cheers ... Ash

Not sandcast I know but I know members have other bikes. (If this is not appropriate here Steve please remove, no problem).

Looking to make a replica CB250 'Dream' only available JDM 1968 (Like CB350K0 but with CB72/77 style tank, shocks, Euro fenders and speedo/tacho unit). I think the oval tach/speedo unit is the same as CB450K0 'Bomber'

Made by Nippon Seiki or Fuji Electric.

Don't mind one that needs repair or new face but must have decent bezel ( they are chromed or stainless depending on manufacturer) & serviceable internals.
Have lots of plastic body CB250/350 plastic gauges and metal body CB450K clocks to trade or cash waiting for the right gauge.

Got loads of spokes to re-plate and was concerned about hydrogen embrittlement using strong acids to remove the old zinc plate so have this  'witches'  brew to try, instead :-

Sorry about UK sources but I am sure you can buy in the USA /Australia etc,

To make up 1 litre of stripping solution:-

100 grammes ---  Sodium Hydroxide  (Source B &Q, Wilkinsons, ect)

90 grammes --- EDTA---- (EthyleneDiamineTetraAcetic acid)  Source:   http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130544728488?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

4 grammes ----  Triethanolamine --- Source :    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321368003934?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Immersion is at 70 degrees C +/- 5 degrees.

Will let you know how I get on.

Please see my solution described here (3rd Temporary pin attached to prove the method):-

http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php?topic=8040.msg52483#msg52483

Had to cut off the 3rd pin in the end to avoid emblem damage and then grind off the filled epoxy witha Dremel tool!

You probably can't view the pictures as a non-member so posted below

Used aluminium rivet with 2 pack epoxy filled with finely ground aluminium powder filler:
