Marizio, Welcome. and while a newcomer myself, forgive me if i "share". early guages, (those with "pebbled" plastic bodies & plasic lenses) had 2 different drive assemblies, & used different chrome bases. The info is here, but requires searching. replacing jewels & lenses means quite a bit of never meant work and can be expensive. I would make sure drives were correct for my application before proceding. luck G

Hi to all,
This week I returned from a holiday and Yesterday I started the restoration.....

What is it ? What is it function?
In this picture You can see my small problem:

In the restoration I want demounting the engine.
Before this operation I'd like to turn on the engine and hear the sound.
What do You think?
During the verify all parts I saw that is missing the switch off.
Yamiya have not this part, and I would know if I can buy only this small part from another vendor.
You know where I can buy this part?

I can't finish because the engine is blocked in bad position.
Tomorrow I have to remove the wheels and to try to move the chassis.
-
The procedure you appear to be attempting; when installing the frame around the engine -or- removing the frame from the engine, the frame should be stripped bare.
The purpose of this procedure is to either lift the frame on to -or- lift the frame off of the engine. The bare frame weighs approximately 25 pounds (11.4kg.) The engine weighs approximately 175 pounds (80kg.)
The purpose of this procedure is to not lift the engine into or out of the frame.
To carry out this procedure, the engine/bare frame unit is lying on the floor, on it's right side, propped with wood blocks. The bare frame is then lifted onto or off of the engine.

Hi To all.....
The disassembly of frame is finished, tomorrow I insert the pictures.
Steve, Lecram, I have the same question....
This braket is original?
(http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/6086/04082011649.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/89/04082011649.jpg/)

some people say to me that is original ....
I do not know what to do, help me please
For me is original, is built well, the paint is beautiful, also the welding is very nice.
But I do not find information regard this braket :(
p.s.
The frame number is 1034xxx
Bye
-
Just my experience, i have never seen a bracket like this on any CB750 frame.
However, I appreciate your observation, paint and welding appear original.
Questions i would answer (to determine originality) by careful examination:
1. Does paint on bracket and surrounding frame area appear unmolested ? In other words, does bracket and/or frame appear to have ever been repainted ? What color is base coat (primer) under black paint in area of bracket and other parts of frame.... (is color of primer same?) If primer color same, then one could argue bracket is original. If different color at bracket than other parts of frame, then one could argue bracket not original. (Hope what i write makes sense !)
2. Is weld steel or brass ? (If i remember correctly, frame welds are steel. No brass welds.....)
Cannot imagine why Honda would weld this bracket, during frame assembly, to the frame. I am not aware Honda, had available a steering stabilizer as a single accessory or fitted a stabilizer on assembly line, during the time K0's were manufactured. (As someone wrote earlier, APPEARS to be for steering stabilizer because of position and hole in bracket.) I am not aware the CR750 kit, offered by Honda, contained a steering stabilizer in the kit. My limited knowledge of the CR750 kit, this kit was not available until sometime 1970. Pictures i have of the CR750 kit, does not show a stabilizer as part of the kit.
Will be good to hear again more from members. Or, you could email Vic World with pictures and question.

That could be better when (dis)assembling the engine. But after you have assembled the engine and want to store it or adjust valves/camshaft or so, it's very helpful to have this. It's just a tip, I don't have shares ;)
-
::) i am sticking too my guns on this one , and still say the bracket is NOT ORIGINAL ,please take a closer look at your own picture it shows rust on all of the original welds of the frame, but not on the bracket even the welding is poor compared to japanese welding of the time. ::)
please cut it off it looks terrible :o

On my frame there isn't the honda nameplate.
I can see only the holes. Four little holes in the left side.
Please, where I can buy the nameplate?

The work on my Cb continues.
In this weekend I removed all the spokes from the wheels, and disassembled the key switch.
With my new key, get on ebay I verified that there was some problems about rotation key.
I had to disassembled the key switch and check all small parts.
The problem was that a small pin was in bad position.
The key switch is now completly disassembled but tomorrow afternoon I can reassembled.
Two beautiful picture for my friends.

Hi, ;D
I seen on more picture in Internet, That some black parts are plus glossy.
For example the Frame is glossy instead other part's are minus glossy.
I think that in origins the frame was painted in a mode and others parts, powder painted.
What do you think?

Hi friends, ciao amici :P
recent works.....
In Italy we use Tankerite, is a good bicomponent product for tank's .
So, in the last motor show (circuit of Imola), I buyed Tankerite.

The procedure is simple and is very important follow the indication's.
to the end is nice to see, inside the color is red and hard.

Much discussion (in past) by several members on paint subject; member concensus believes no powder coat. If i remember correctly, members concensus believes switches and master cylinder are anodized. The upper steering clamp is approximately 70% gloss black. Frame gloss black(not deep gloss.) Other frame parts less gloss.

do you like this?

Hi Maurizio,
Is Tankrite a product available in Europe ? I did a websearch and could not find info. I have no opinion, i don't know anything about the Tankrite. In video, appears quite viscous.
In USA, we have a product called Kreem. I've used Kreem in several tanks over the past 30 years. Kreem is methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) based. Kreem requires a perfectly clean tank with all rust removed using a weak phosphoric acid prep. I have seen a number of tanks where Kreem was used and over the years the Kreem coating let loose, hanging in tank, even when tank is prepped properly. Kreem is not easy to remove, only by using multiple baths of MEK. Also, coating with Kreem, the thickness of coating difficult to control, because Kreem is rather viscous. Kreem cautions against too thick coating, but difficult to control because of viscosity http://kreem.com/ (http://kreem.com/)
Recently A couple years ago, i learned of new product, POR-15. I used in badly rusted tank on 2157. (Elsewhere i posted my experience removing the rust using washing soda and electrolysis, which REALLY removes all rust extremely effectively.) Then i used POR-15 for the first time, a coating that reacts to bare metal and to any remaining rust. POR-15 is not MEK based, but the coating is essentially clear and virtually non-detectable after application. I was VERY pleased with end result using POR-15. Coating thickness all the same; POR-15 is not viscous like Kreem. http://www.por15.com/whatispor15.asp (http://www.por15.com/whatispor15.asp)
These are just my thoughts and experience.
-
Steve,
i've visited the Kreem site.
The Blue Shield product can be a care preservation for the Lotus Root.
What you think about?
-
hmm, interesting. if it can withstand heat, it should be good.

Hi Steve,
In this moment I'm to work :-\
Ok....... ::)
In Italy, many person buy tankerite for restoring the tank.
This is a famous product in Italy.
In every box there is a bottle of tankerite, catalyst and phosphoric acid (in low percentual).
After the mixing Tankerite is still creamy and is necessary apply 5-10 % of alcool.
In this mode Tankerite becomes very liquid, with perfect application.
After many years I saw many tank's in good conditions.
Attention, after the application is necessary to wait one weeks for use.
Please see also this web site:

Hi friends, work go on...
Now is the time for the paint frame, my ultimate opinion (after many brainstormig) is for powder paint.
Near my home there is an important factory specialized in paint.
They prefer apply before special primer (anti corrosive) and after powder paint.

Great post and a novel way of recording a restoration. A picture tells a 1000 words but a video tells a million. I loved it :o
As for Sirius in Canada, I've been buying parts from them since I don't know when and all their products are good and service is great. Deal with them direct rather than ebay and you will save on postage and maybe cost of the parts. I don't see why their pistons would be any different to anyone else. I would use them. KP

I use siruis ring with no problem.

Hi to all, friends.
I need information about balancing of crankshaft.
During the engine disassembly, I seen the difformity of connecting rods.
In the picture You can see the number printed on side.
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/lpCG8roPve_xiG6RUpKfKyJvInKoAE6CWjeiwHQRKYg?feat=directlink
I don't understand why the first is different
So, I want to balance the cranckshaft but I don't understand if during the operations is necessary disassembly the connecting rods.
The connecting rods must have the same weight?
How did the honda?
Sorry, but occasionally I don't find the correct translation. :'(

How many time is passed....
During this time I reassembled the engine and finish my hydraulic power unit for my lifter.
In the last week I did some tests on the aluminium covers.
I don't know the correct level of glossy, I saw only the pictures of Markb.
I hope that is correct.
I remember to all that my cb750 is not a Sandcast.
Can You give me a tip ?
I post some pictures
Why on Internet I see more cover very glossy ? About the glossy, are there difference between Sandcast and Diecast ?
-
They're looking pretty damn good to me Remember that your bike is not original so you're never going to get original. You do what you like or what you can achieve. Whatb you've done so far looks very very good. KP ;)
-
Hi Puccio,
I agree with KP, they look great. As far as mine being "correct", I personally prefer more of a brushed finish but that doesn't mean they're correct. It might be a little closer to original but again like KP says you can never get them like original. In fact I think it is more difficult to get a nice brushed look. I believe everyone should do what they think looks good. No matter what finish you have it can always be redone by you or the next owner to suit their tastes. I think you're doing a great job.
Mark
-
I am seeing a lot of picture on internet.
In many pictures I see that the covers are glossy but not similar to mirror.
So I taken my drill and refined my work.
Now I'm happy.
I think that the four750 k0 in the museum is like my cycle.
Sorry but is my first four750 :P
-
BEE-U-TEE-FUL WORK !!!!

Sweeeet looking machine, excellent. Marty K.
-
The museum pic was taken at Barbers and is a Vic World restoration.
-
i didn't know this...interesting.
I think, if them put Vic's cycle in the museum, I think that the cycle is an excellent restore. Is true ?
Where I get some picture about Four 750 k0 ?
Today afternoon in Puccio's garage
-
Hi friends,
After many test, I decided....
This is the final glossy before of trasparent paint.
I obtain this state with abrasive paper 400 and successive scotch brite brown with water.
-
:) That's just the way I like it. I have found I get better results by over polishing and then bringing it back to the brushed look. Don't wait too long to clear coat them. They will oxidise very fast. Very nice work.
-
Tomorrow morning I paint the cover.
I find (in Italy) a good product.
The name is Plastivel and the temperature work is to 180 grad Celsius.
Without yellowing effect.
I hope in a good work
-
:-\
Hi, I'm not happy, Plastivel isn't good.
I tried it,but when this is dry, the mechanic strength is terrible.
I sended a mail to Eastwood (England), to know if they can send to Italy.
I wait

Ciao friends...
After a long time, I return here ;D
Fortunatly the works on my byke continuing, and now I see the end.
During this time I did many works...
1)re anodizing the aluminium part to the handlebar,
2)mounting the winkers
3)mounting carburetors and air box
The most difficult work has been re anodizing the aluminium parts.
But to the end I am very satisfied.
aluminium parts before the washing in caustic soda
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-cENjM7DGk4s/UmwsKlRp-qI/AAAAAAAAEWM/Cwar2xwO8tI/w1023-h768-no/IMG_1409.JPG)
after the treatment
(https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-WPFupJ-zy-g/UnK3i_McHqI/AAAAAAAAEXc/11wiYMjcKWA/w1023-h768-no/soda+caustica.JPG)
the parts must be polished
(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-yPWTgIRKqmc/UoBnZqToWFI/AAAAAAAAEcA/GDSQ-niv4oU/w1023-h768-no/P1060446.JPG)
this is the final result
(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-SUOzCYC1ZRw/UowRU1HsZgI/AAAAAAAAEj0/1zkyyFMVyno/w1039-h780-no/IMG_1486.jpg)
VERY IMPORTANT:
the aluminium fusion of the pump is different respect to the others parts.
Infact the final result is different.
But i had an idea, I polished all the parts, and the result now is very good.
I am happy :P
-
During polishing of the levers, I seen that these have a parts in transparent plastic.
How to replicate the transparent plastic ?

They look excellent. Did you do the anodizing yourself? What did you do about the pins in the halves of the handlebar controls? I was told they would have to be removed before doing the anodizing.
-
I didn't know the problems for these pin.
So, after the treatment I saw that one pin was damaged.
Fortunately only one pin. I can remedy.
the treatment has been done from a specialized company.
I was angry, but is possible to remedy.
With a restore you become more specialize in more sectors :)
Today and tomorrow I assembly the seat and right and left covers.

To resolve the pin problem, I drilled and inserted a special pin.
The translation in italian is "spina elastica", but I don't know the english name.

Fortunately, my son helped me. There are's two springs, and the assembly of these, is not simple (with only two hands).

"spina elastica" = "split pins"

....And now is the correct moment, I can reassembly the handle switch..
First the left side

The end of the works is near but i want to check the engine start.
So,i take the fuel tank of xr600 and i connect a pipe between the tank and the carburator.
First of everything,I put 1,5 liters of oil directly in the engine and 2 liters in the oil tank.
I wanted to test the oil bulb and during this,I checked the oil bulb and so i was be able to connect a provisory battery.
In this video you can see the first engine start.
Prima accensione four750 k0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7QHehVxfhs#)
The next steps are the carburators balance and the check of carburation

I would ask some information about brake master cylinder.
So, I been able to anodizing the front master cylinder, and check the correct function.
The verification was successful.
So, after 4 days of stop, i checked if all is ok.
But I saw a little oil leak under the brake master cylinder.
"Before to reassembly, i have polished the hole".
So, I would to know if someone has done experiments about boring of brake master cylinder.
I appreciate your comments

Hi to all, I return here after many time.
I have a question about the airbox of my 750 k0.
This item have two Holes as this picture....
http://www.yamiya750.com/images/T135a6.jpg (http://www.yamiya750.com/images/T135a6.jpg)
http://www.yamiya750.com/images/T135b6.jpg (http://www.yamiya750.com/images/T135b6.jpg)
Why 2 holes ?
best regards
-
Buongiorno Maurizio, you are away a long time.
The early Honda Sandcast originalally came with the 2 hole airbox. There were 2 variations with the reproduction from Yamiya being the early 2 hole. Around mid production of the Sandcast bikes, this was changed to a three hole variation in order to overcome cracking of the early 2 hole design. All diecast bikes came fitted with the 3 hole type air cleaner box
If you want a 3 hole airbox then the easiest fix would be to drill a third hole in the Yamiya reproduction. I am not sure if the 3 hole bracket aligns with the existing 2 holes but you can try before any modification. A presto
-
many thanks for the reply.
I ask it for a lean mixture.
Sometime I hear a small explosion from the Right side (probably lean mixture?).
In the next days I check other things.
Bye
*P.s.
Can I open a new post for my new restoration? IL MOSTRO is Honda Xr600 1986. If the reply is Yes there is a special section ?
