Title: Plug Caps
Post by: UK Pete on February 23, 2013, 09:44:48 am
Can anyone tell me what plug caps my 69 diecast should have, i have noticed some bikes have the metal cased plug caps , but most have the black type, which would be correct, i have searched the internet and found no answers yet

I have never seen metal caps on any CB750's, up to K0 that is.  I don't know about later.

Ditto what Mark says.

Looks like you've got Honda oem in the plastic bag.

;) i have them on two of my 1970 CB750's they are the original Honda plug caps for the UK market, they might have been for European market as well, the k0's had them ,not sure about the k1's and later summit to do with radio interferance  i think, its ironic that they where used in one of the dampest parts of the planet, that's why most of them got thrown away and replaced , you could even hear them arcing out when it rained

Hi Pete, I also have them on my UK CB750K0.....exactly as per your top photo, grey plastic shaft with a metal shroud.

As it never gets wet apart from being washed, they work just fine.

Yep, they are correct fitment for UK bikes. Kawasaki Z1s had them as well so they were still being fitted to Jap bikes in the UK up to 1972/73. I might add the original items are a rare to find item. There are other look alike ones but the original caps are different so I'm told so if you change to the black/brown type make sure you keep the originals. KP

The metal type were still being fitted to UK 400/4's in 1977 (I still have the set I took off the first day I got that bike, re-fitted to it when restored in the late '90's). Quite impressive to watch on a dark rainy night, when you could see and hear the rogue sparks. Not that anyone would use them that way anymore. I thought your CB750 was a non UK market bike Pete, in which case the non metal cased ones may well be correct?

Cheers

I agrre with Chris.
All the Hondas 350-500-750 in '70 years was equipped with metal plug caps.
But they was a very damnation for the owners, not good in rainy day or for wash the bike.
Abitually was removed immediately after the purchase of the bike.
