If your trying to match original I have good original honda paint from 69 that I just did a side cover in. I would send it to you for shipping. Just send the remainder back. Don't have the silver base paint. Used it to touch up an nos piece. It will be darker than tanks because of fading. matched exactly with nos cover.

Welcome to the world of restoration. Yamiya makes a great pan ducktail. I measured tonight same dimensions but fewer holes as early originals. I'm using their repo seat in a resto. project. Wouldn't if original. IMHO if u are restoring a bike it's the best you will find. Only flaw I saw was buckles for seat strap. Non sandcast pan should be easy to find. buy yamiyas foam and cover if you are looking to do a "correct" restoration.

steve, never apologise. 3 28 carbs? . I've never seen any on a resto. Even the stuff you know is not era ,"factory correct" I,ve never seen a more accurate or better researched sandcast. It will make my next resto easy. You did all the research work!! Eli

Steve ,great job. Doug ,these pipes are not original, but they are correct for an early sandcast restoration. As we gain more knowledge of what is correct factory and the #s they come out as we more authentically restore our bikes. I've seen supposed Vic World early #restorations with stamped pipes. That is what was available at the time. 5 years ago I didn't even know what lotus root was. My Indian restorations are a good example. As we learn more ,more "correct" parts become available. What was a 95 point indian 4 in 1990 would be lucky 2 be an 80m point bike today. Most people would not know the difference between unmarked and lotus root. It's that kind of minutae that makes us passionet about our bikes. Its about gaining knowledge. There is nothing wrong with using any kind of pipes on our bikes , it just depends on the kind of restoration you are going for. I strive for factory correct in every detail I can. I love the research as I'm not a mechanic. Many people like a close rider or a custom. I enjoy the AMCA points judging and the knowledge gained. Other people don't. Who cares
. Bottom line... a very few people did a ton of research to figure out when the earliest pipes stopped. If you want a factory correct restoration before those #s you need the lotus roots. Thats it. Now try finding early 28 carbs to go with them.  Eli

The AMCA now has a wing at the AACA museum in Hershey ,Pa. For the 40th anniversary of the 750 we are trying to put a cool display there for 2009. www.aacamuseum.org ,Bikes would be on loan from 6 months to a year. I would love to see the recently found prototype there ,any early sandcasts and old literature. All are insured would be insured and credited to the owner. The bike wing will open June 8. I have 72 Z1 and 71 650 XS-B there. The VIP party is June 7 from 1:00-4:00. If anyone wants to attend Email me at sentman234@comcast.net

Hi Steve and Steven, Thanks for clearing up the pan hole question. The seat is very nice so I don't want people to think I'm picking it apart. I didn't use the original pan because the seat was nice enough to put on an original bike with a little repair but not full restoration quality. I'm going for as perfect as I can achieve factory new restoration. I bought the later unmarked pipes from Yamiya but have not opened the box yet or tried to fit them. I ordered those instead of the Lotus root pipes a few months ago because my bike wouldn't have come with them being #4437. The originals were to nice to rechrome but again not nice enough for the show room new restoration I'm going for. My #4 pipe had a touch of road rash close to the end of the pipe that I also would of had to fill in before chroming. I noticed the World restoration that just went buy it now on Ebay for $22500.00 had marked HM-300s. I really wanted to stick with unmarkeds even being repros.

I've been restoring bikes for awhile so I'm used to after market stuff needing some tweeks. I'm thankfull to the people that make and supply the parts to make quality factory restorations possable even if they arn't perfect yet. I know with Indians the after market parts are 100% better and more accurate now than they were just 10 or 15 years ago. I'm sure the same thing will happen with our 750s. I'd love to hear more reports on aftermarket yea and nays and why, or the fix for the nays. One thing I have to say about Yamiya was the items were very well packed and got to Philadelphia in 4 days from Japan. I still have trouble communicating questions to them but I'm starting to understand their broken english. Thanks for the input. Eli

I received a large order from Yamiya today. Sort of like christmas. Has anyone used their carb repair kit. I've noticed that the washer for the top does not fit my carbs. The washer for the top of the carb is really more of a rubber gasket. The hole in the center for the throttle cable to come thru is to small and centered instead of offset. Has anyone else had to trim these up to fit? The little postioning legs on the outside edge of the top line up.

Since this is a complete restoration I bought a seat from Yamiya very nice. There are a few little differences from my originals. The chrome pieces that cover the strap where it is screwed into the seat is slightly different in that it only wraps around the first layer of strap not the small bit of strap at the end, It's a bit thinner than honda. I dare anyone to be able to tell the difference without heavy inspection. The front hinge was drilled off a little. The one bolt hole is in the right spot The other was drilled further toward the center of the seat so that it makes the hinge a little crooked and not line up correctly with the hinge part mounted on the bike. Unfortunatly I can't drill it over any without using some of the original hole. I'll probably have to drill it out and put a lock washer and nut up there so that it straightens out. The hinge bracket on the seat will cover this all up. They also give you #8 bolts to attach the hinges and seat latch. Cute but I've never seen #8 bolts used there. At least on none of my original seats. The seat from a visual standpoint is top quality. I would be extrenmely hard pressed to tell it from original except for the strap buckles and the use of less holes in the seat pan compared to my 4 original seats. It is very nice and I would buy one again for a restoration. I will post pictures of what I'm talking about when I get a chance. Eli

I put some before PICs on my homepage of the sandcast I'm restoring. I'd love to hear anyones comments and suggestions. I'm making a double cut fender out of a single cut. My metal working guru has it and is filling in the speedo cable guide hole and cutting the front then into the chrome parts box. Has anyone reanodized parts? I'd love to hear experiances and who does this work. I need to do a master cylinder. My bike has the round earth cable. When was the flat cable stopped? I also need to know the best places to replate bolts. I believe they are zinc plated. I have experiance with cad and chrome but not Zinc. I'd really like everyones help and input. If the lenses are only made in Japan and act as tail lights they are probably later after market. All lenses I know of on late 60s Asian bikes were made by Stanley and marked as such.

Rear Red lenses were mandatory for certain states in 69. Honda played catch up by shipping red lenses later than the earliest 750s. Dealers would actually paint ambers red to comply on some of the first turn signal required bikes. You will see red on alot of early HDs. They soon were banned to amber in almost most if not all states. As Chris said, no DOT= a cool historical part. Not rare but not common. Eli

My only knowledge of KO is the same book and passage. I will pass this site off to a friend of mine whos family still owns one of the earliest Honda dealerships. (1958) I'll try to get his dads take on this. The dad was an Indian dealer that after their demise became a Honda dealer. They are still very active especially in old bikes. Steve, You being an old Indian four guy might know Bob Markey from Etters ,Pa. I had a great conversation with him this summer at the White Rose meet. He had some great stories about meeting Mr. Honda, visiting the factory in the 60s and his dealings with Honda in the old days. Eli
