Parts Q&A's and Feedback. / yamiya order
« on: February 19, 2010, 08:05:27 pm »
I received a large order from Yamiya today. Sort of like christmas. Has anyone used their carb repair kit. I've noticed that the washer for the top does not fit my carbs. The washer for the top of the carb is really more of a rubber gasket. The hole in the center for the throttle cable to come thru is to small and centered instead of offset. Has anyone else had to trim these up to fit? The little postioning legs on the outside edge of the top line up.

Since this is a complete restoration I bought a seat from Yamiya very nice. There are a few little differences from my originals. The chrome pieces that cover the strap where it is screwed into the seat is slightly different in that it only wraps around the first layer of strap not the small bit of strap at the end, It's a bit thinner than honda. I dare anyone to be able to tell the difference without heavy inspection. The front hinge was drilled off a little. The one bolt hole is in the right spot The other was drilled further toward the center of the seat so that it makes the hinge a little crooked and not line up correctly with the hinge part mounted on the bike. Unfortunatly I can't drill it over any without using some of the original hole. I'll probably have to drill it out and put a lock washer and nut up there so that it straightens out. The hinge bracket on the seat will cover this all up. They also give you #8 bolts to attach the hinges and seat latch. Cute but I've never seen #8 bolts used there. At least on none of my original seats. The seat from a visual standpoint is top quality. I would be extrenmely hard pressed to tell it from original except for the strap buckles and the use of less holes in the seat pan compared to my 4 original seats. It is very nice and I would buy one again for a restoration. I will post pictures of what I'm talking about when I get a chance. Eli

The Archives / My sancast project
« on: February 19, 2010, 07:48:29 pm »
I put some before PICs on my homepage of the sandcast I'm restoring. I'd love to hear anyones comments and suggestions. I'm making a double cut fender out of a single cut. My metal working guru has it and is filling in the speedo cable guide hole and cutting the front then into the chrome parts box. Has anyone reanodized parts? I'd love to hear experiances and who does this work. I need to do a master cylinder. My bike has the round earth cable. When was the flat cable stopped? I also need to know the best places to replate bolts. I believe they are zinc plated. I have experiance with cad and chrome but not Zinc. I'd really like everyones help and input. Lets get some discussion going. Eli DEAD LINK click on restoration. Eli

Brakes / Master Cylinder rebuild
« on: February 17, 2010, 04:21:50 pm »
Before I anodize my master cylinder I have a few questions. I removed the piston and there seems to be alot of corrosion. Does anyone know the diamater in MMs? By the looks of this I feel it needs to be sleeved. Any good sources? Thanks, Eli

The Beginning / Carb kits and one more brake question
« on: February 17, 2010, 04:07:57 pm »
What is the best available rebuild kit for KO carbs and where should I go to get them?

Is there a way to fix the little piston on the front brake without having to take the brake apart? If I use the front brakes on my 69 the pads stay engaged with the disk. I can pry them back but they just stick again when I use the brake. I know this is a common problem but don't know the real fix.

Thanks and sorry for all of the beginner type questions this week. Eli

Shows and Events / AMCA Perkiomen Meet
« on: February 17, 2010, 02:59:28 pm »
I've been a member of the AMCA, Antiquemotorcycle.org
for a few years. This years theme at the east coasts largest antique motorcycle meet is Honda motorcycles. If any of you want to attend and watch my sandcast and 70 KO screw the judges up, the dates are April 29-May1. AMCA scores bikes on a concourse points system like a concourse car show. Besides that ,it's alot of fun hanging with people as anal about old bikes as we are. Not many Jap parts like mid Ohio but over 350 vendors. Honda parts, when they come up are cheap. I'll be there to piss off the american bike purists and we will have a huge RV to party on. The fire house fair grounds where this is held keeps their bar open till 4:00am for us. Me and a few friends play guitar and sing sick perverted songs for free shots at the fire house bar. A good time if anyone wants to attend. This is located in Oley,Pa. very close to Reading. Well, it's Valentines day so me and the old bag will go upstairs just to say "What, you can't think of anyone else either." That's what happens when your with the same woman since high school. Eli

Does anyone know how many years Honda used Bridgestone speedkings and the F2 version front? I've found some original Bridgestones from a 73 and am trying to figure out if these are the same for 69. They are marked speedkings. Thanks, Eli
