Restoration of Sandcast #97 / Re: Restoration of Sandcast #97

Hi,
Keep on being anal on this matter and please take more pictures. My SC came in boxes without any bolts and it is a lesson for me to see what kind of 8-bolt is used at every place.

Super nice thread!

Restoration of Sandcast #97 / Re: Restoration of Sandcast #97

Hi Mark,
I noticed that you tried with differents points and plates so you should be able to exclude that.
Still one longshot though, if the little cam follower on the breaker arm is shorter than it should be, it will lift the breaker arm later and that would affect the position of the the plate. Vice versa if the breaker arm are longer than it should be. A longshot but I guess you consider everything at this moment.

In some way you should be able to balance it a little with readjusting the breakers gap with the plate(s) in another position.
Am I thinking wrong in that way?

In my opinion neither the engines or frames or swingarms are SC-correct.
SC engines only has 2 bolts inside the chain sprocket "compartment", the shock brackets/gussets is short and thee was a special chaincase bracket on the swingarm. Most of you know all this, but I attach pictures for clarity.

General Discussion / Re: 8# bolts
« on: June 23, 2014, 02:59:45 pm »
Hi,
I have bought the Yamiya 8-bolt kit and they look really Ok to me. Only one of my bolts had the drilled out centers of the 8 and I think it is the long bolt for the chain guard. I also have some the originals with 8:s and a dot.

Does anyone know what is correct for sandcast? Was Hondas original bolts with or without the dot? On my original bolts there is also different sizes of the 8:s. I dont not know where the bolt was placed originally or if they are correct as I bought everything almost as a basket case. I will in a short time start to reassemble #5128 so I would be very pleased to know this.

Hi, on my #5128 the C/C is 250 mm

If you take a look at Yamiyas pictures they have only changed the outer nuts. Is it only necessary on the outers or did they just show an example on using the nuts?

Either of my E1004957 (7-26) or E1007384 (9-2) has any T, and one of them are really late in production.
Sorry for bad quality on pics!

General Discussion / Original service tools
« on: January 30, 2014, 02:36:27 pm »
I didnīt know this tools was available until I searched at Davidsilverspares in the UK. The partno are found in the beginning of the old shop manual. Several other tools are also available. It took them a couple of month to deliver this, but I finally got them today!
I guess you have your own tricks to compress the piston rings, but its kind of nice to be able to use the original equipment. Original service tools is somewhat like filling the bikes tool bag with correct tools.
The partno is 07954-3000000 (original no 07032-30001) you could search both at David silver.
They came as a pair of pliers and feels good with really strong springs.

I will try these when i start to reassemble E #7384 soon.
