Don't waste your time Chris. David Silver Spares in the UK does a perfect copy. See the links page for the web address.  8)

Paint - Badges and Component Refinishing / Re: Anodize
« on: February 17, 2010, 11:24:57 am »
Chris, reanodizing can be done but you first need to strip the existing anodizing from your part. There are plenty of stories on the net devoted to anodizing but few talk about reanodizing. I found a good article by Ron Newman that gives an easily understood overview and he covers re anodizing. Here's the link

All you need now is an anodizer willing to do it. I was talking to Steve yesterday and seems the jury is still out. But like Eli I'm leaning towards anodize. Anyone got a 50+mate still working at Honda. KP   8)

Eli, you're right, it's not paint and I tend to think it's either anodise or black chrome KP

The Beginning / Re: Engine Installation

Hey AM Humping a sandcast motor with ya mate! Hmmmm That's a first, and I thought the kiwis were sick little puppies. Yuz musta bin drinkin tooooo much fosters. I told ya about drinkin that fosters swill. Affects the mind
The correct way to put a motor back into a frame is to chop the top side bars off. Don't worry about scratchin the paint cos ya paint the frame after the motor is in. A bit of overspray I agree but that's nuthin to the trouble you have welding the tubes back in.
The thing you really have to watch is the oil filter. I broke 3 early round style filter housings trying to get the motor back into my frame. No worries though, I worked it out in the end. I cut the offending frame downtube and got the motor home eventually. Only thing I got to work out now is where I put that piece of downtube.  ;D

Fuel (gas - petrol) Tanks, Side Covers and Air Box / Re: Wrinkle Tanks
« on: February 17, 2010, 10:44:31 am »
I think I like Bob Brooks' answer. I also have a production 69 diecast VIN 1011970 and this bike has a wrinkle tank. This is the original tank as the whole bike is in the same stock condition as when it was delivered from the dealer including frontn tyre. There weren't many sandcast bikes delivered in Oz, a few in the 1XXX, a few in the 5XXX and a few in the late 6XXX. Nevertheless, the climate is such that rusty tanks are a fact of life here and methinks the bike concerned may have had a tank change at some time. I cannot say this with any guarantee as I haven't seen the actual bike, but I will see it one day and I may then be in a better position to have an opinion. As for Fosters A.M., I don't do fosters; it's swill beer Speaking of the wife, she says "Why do you spend so much time with your bikes?" I says "the bike's a better ride"(hee hee hee) KP  ;)
