This is the same petcock that came with Sandcast #410. I originally thought it was replacement, but I am starting to think it is correct.

Great progress!

Looks like you have a later oil filter cover. Yours should be a round cover I believe (not sure exactly when the cutoff for the round cover was).

Also, the oil lines should be secured by bolts and a not screws.

How do you know about the engine number? I dont see any pics or reference to the engine number.

Thick lip alternator cover that appears over-polished to me. I also see a reference to powdercoated parts. Uh oh!

Many of us have been ordering from them for many years. Very reliable. I’m sure Covid will slow things down a bit. I don’t hesitate to order from them.

Nice looking bike as KP said. The exhaust s wrong (it should be a no-number and not an HM300). The seat has aftermarket foam (it should be red). I would want to confirm that it is a wrinkle tank. Not sure if that is an original rear fender (painted brake light tower and the presence of the spec label are not on my original 6xxx sandcast). Perhaps a European difference? I'm sure KP and Bo will know. The top triple tree appears to be polished aluminum. It should be painted flat black. Also not sure if those are some kind of special euro turn signals or just aftermarket parts. I dont think the rubber boot on the master cylinder appeared until the K1. Same with the master cylinder cap with writing on it. Looks like the ignition switch is a later non-recessed switch.

It is a nice bike. I'm just being picky :)

You can see my technique in my timelapse restoring #538. I cleaned the cover, then heated it and did my best to moisturize it with off-the-shelf synthetic leather treatments.

Welcome! Congrats on your purchase!

You can soften the seat cover and stretch it over replacement foam. Yamiya750.com sells foam. Make sure you get the red foam of course.

Congrats Arn! One of the best sandcast finds in years! The site will hugely benefit from documentation of what you find as you tear into the restoration. Lots to learn and confirm!

Yes, you can save the tank most likely. Clean out the tank as best you can. Protect tha paint while you do it! Your petcock will need to be rebuilt of course. To get the rust out of the tank, use metal rescue. Wonderful stuff. Non toxic. Buy a fiv gallon bucket of it.

Your petcock is an early short one from what I can see. Get new internals for it.

Looks like your mirrors are from a K1.

Gotta love these kind of photos....what a wonderful find! Well, not a find....a rediscovery.

The good news is that your bike is in decent shape and has a lot of the super rare stuff (double cut front fender, recessed ignition and so on). You even have the correct 1969 CA license plate. I have the same on my candy-blue green daily driver sandcast. Super cool.

The paint appears to be in excellent condition. This is rare for red paint which usually fades. Is it a wrinkle tank?

Your exhaust (at least 1 and 4) are toast which is common. You can find excellent reproductions or hunt down originals if you have the time.

Probably time for new tires too :)

Other than the black steel bar on the back of the bike, I dont see anything incorrect. KP will set us straight...he's great at examining photos like this!
