Engine - Cosmetic Only / Re: Oil Pan, Oil Filter Cover - Painted?
« on: November 05, 2014, 09:48:42 am »
Dear Steve, I agree that a late production part cannot be used as an example, but the NOS head breather cover (12321-300-010) above was superceded by (12321-300-020) after serial number 10.338, an non longer produced from October 1969. Couldn’t a glossy paint from 1969 become a semi glossy at 2014?

This is the finish of a NOS sandcast cylinder head breather cover (12321-300-010), it was in an original Honda closed package. I think that the cam chain tensioner has the same finish.

I wonder which are the motorcycles, from the 70's and 80's, that the members own, and which are the collectibles bikes that members would like to own. I have a Sandcast and a CBX 1000 1978, and would like to own a Kawazaki Z1 900 and a Kawazaki GPZ900r.

Sorry about my English.

Thanks.

Links to Auctions and Classifieds / Re: Sandcast 6655 on eBay
« on: July 17, 2014, 08:17:11 pm »
either the seller knows more about the bike and isn't telling, but it's clear the bike knows more and is telling.  8/76 date coded top brake line.  incorrect battery ground wire.  later 6 spring rear shocks. Appears to be later wiring harness.  the frame vin stamps are painted over.  incorrect tool bag. it's difficult to believe those crankcases could ever stay that clean w/ 14xxx miles.  the seat is the early 11 hole type.  he believes HM300 were used on "vins 4500 or so..."  a nice bike, none the less and seller does acknowledge it has had at least one "freshening up."

the nos wrinkle tank is to die for....  i do note the baffle for the venting system of the fuel cap is riveted on.  would be interesting to know date of tank manufacture, as riveting the cap baffle was later practice.

...the carburetor and gauge gears are from a later K0, but still a beautiful fully restored bike.

"88 Model Distinctions" / Re: Kick Starter Rubber
« on: July 12, 2014, 09:38:01 pm »
I have noticed that all early bikes which we see as being unmolested etc etc all have a kick rubber that is way too small in length for that foot lever part. Later bikes and certainly later genuine kick rubbers are longer and fit the full length.

Dear KP;

I noticed that the lenght between the rubber part number 28311-200-000 (harder and with HM logo) and the superceded 28311-250-000 (softer and no Hm logo) are almost the same, about 69 mm, but I found a diference between the lenght of a sandcast and a K2(?)-onward kick starter that is 8 mm longer.

I tried Steve Swan's teory and put the kick start rubber in boiled water for 1 minute, I was just trying to rotate the honda logo. Worked fine. My kick start rubber was very short, 64 mm, then I put another minute in boiled water, streched the rubber and put it in a recipiente with water and ice, made this twice, now my rubber has 69mm, it is not too much, but after 45 to grow up something is realy a miracle.  ;D ;D ;D

I don't see any reason for the joint holder be unpainted and the holder painted.
The reasonable to me seem that both were painted or unpainted.
The pin caliper holder is greased? If yes the correct would be that both were not painted?
