I noticed the screw in my headlight ring that is used to adjust the beam left and right is a straight blade.  Should this not be a Phillips (jis) head ?  Does anyone know where I can get one of the correct screws ?

Fuel (gas - petrol) Tanks, Side Covers and Air Box / Backside of sidecovers
« on: November 26, 2014, 03:57:33 am »
I need to repaint a new set of side covers, my freshly repainted original cover cracked.

How were the original side covers finished on the back side ?  Was the paint on the back similar to the outside or less finished.

Does anyone have a good picture of the correct factory Finnish on the backside of a side cover.

Bike is Red.

Paint - Badges and Component Refinishing / Yamiya tank badges
« on: September 20, 2014, 10:32:52 pm »
I was installing a set of Yamiya tank badges on my tank today and was having difficulty in getting them to hug close to the tank.  I took them off and slightly shortened the mounting studs a slight amount.  The went back on and I was able to form them closely to the tank.  I used some clear 100% silicon on the mounting studs to hold it place in the barrel nuts.

Frame and Chassis Related Elements / Data Plate on Headtube
« on: September 09, 2014, 10:20:25 am »
My Bike does not have a data plate on the Headtube, it has the vin stamped into metal on the left side and a decal on the right side.  My frame vin is in 6200 range.  This weekend there were two Sandcasts at the VJMC West Coast Rally one was unrestored original and the other was a Vic World bike.  Neither had a data plate.  There is a Sandcast for sale on eBay and it has a data plate on the Headtube.  What is the correct situation.

Frame and Chassis Related Elements / Chain guard mount.
« on: August 28, 2014, 12:45:27 am »
My swing arm has the three front tabs for the chain guard, and the front threaded tab and bolt.  The rear chain guard mount is missing, looks like it was cut off so a different guard could be mounted.  I plan to fabricate a mount tab and weld it on.  I can see where it goes, but want to see what it looks like and the size.

Any help or pictures w ill be appreciated, thank.

Fuel (gas - petrol) Tanks, Side Covers and Air Box / Gas tank rust
« on: August 28, 2014, 12:30:56 am »
My gas tank is mostly clean but has a small amount of rust on each side on the bottom.  When you look in the filler it looks clean, but on the very bottom at the sides there is some rust.  I plan to remove it using electrolysis , I have done this several times and it works well with no harmfull chemicals.

My question is this: I want to attempt to seal just the bottoms after cleaning.  I think I will pour some sealer using a funnel and a rubber hose down into the bottoms.  Then rock the tank front to back and side to side very slightly , just not get the top.

I like the original Finnish on the hump when you look in.

Has anyone tried this partial sealing the bottoms ?

Engine Mechanical / Fin repair oil filter case
« on: August 21, 2014, 12:16:49 am »
Anyone have experience splicing a fin together.  I have a finned no rib case with a broken fin.  I plan to trim the broken fin, and weld on a fitted piece from a junk yard part.  Anyone have any experience with this sort of repair
