General Discussion / Re: Fake part or a copy?

Has anyone bought one of these just to use as a parts source? I was thinking about re-anodizing my original ones and swapping the internals.

Engine 1682 , carbs happen to be apart.  Long choke arm (66mm) 90° vents and interiors of bowls are smooth with no marks visible.

Now that magnification was mentioned I reinspected during daylight.... (3) with a backwards 2 and (1) with a backwards 1 no logo marks

I was also at the Mecum Auction and took a bunch of pictures of this bike but somehow managed to delete them all except one. Nice early oil lines looked new. They were smooth ferules. I doubt if the bike ran. It certain would not have stopped well as the master cylinder was cracked from an impact. A poor restoration that didn't slow the bidding. K1 front fender and ribbed air box painted blue. Poor seat recover or cheap replacement. I did not lift the seat or look in the tank. A lot of the nuts and bolts were incorrect hardware store items. Engine looked OK with no-number Yamiya(?) pipes. I didn't commit much to memory as I took pictures:( If pressed I think it was E416.

Just to add to the confusion.. Frame 1630 has a 3 hole air box and the frame has reliefs. But I think mine is an anomaly.

Unfortunately even the frame looks heavily modified.

I going to agree that they have shrunk. The same goes for the passenger foot peg rubbers with the HM logo. As they shrink they no longer offer the resistance to keep the pegs in position. I haven't decided wither to add rubber spacers to fill the gap or just use modern pieces without the logo.

You are right, I wasn't reading carefully. I was just thinking about the tubes. My carbs don't have overflows but they do have vent body tubes and these are not shown in my April 69 parts book either.

E 1682 has them. Cast date 5/23 but the frame 1630 has a date of 12/69 which might explain a late application. I just vapor blasted the bowls with good results. Don't tell me I have the wrong carbs. ???

General Discussion / Re: Wiring Loom Tags
« on: February 05, 2014, 12:46:03 am »
After a nearly 3 year hiatus I have decided to return to my sandcast restoration 1682E/1630F. After following this site for the last few years I have learned a great deal and found out that many of the things that I thought would be quick and easy are anything but. That said, I have learned that the Yamiya wiring harness I bought right at the start is apparently wrong, although it was for a KO. Fortunately not too late to change. So now I see this tag numbered 300-0400 which matches the part number in the 69 parts list. Of course my tag is different , 300-0 00. Is this correct? This harness is very rough with cut wires. Do you buy a 300-050 (these seem to be available and how different are they?) and remark with this new tags or attempt to restore the original harness? Thanks for any help.

Now for the frame and engine numbers. If it stops raining , I'll take it outside for a better shot of the frame number tomorrow.
