Title: Gas Latch Pins
Post by: DW69K0 on December 14, 2014, 12:07:47 pm
Question, where is everyone sourcing the pins for your gas cap latch?
Do you use a special punch for peening the replacement pin's end to match the factory? I have not be able to find a good source for the original pins.

I have seen pins with snap lock end, but don't want to go that route for my tank's replacement latch.
Let me know what is the best route for replacement.

Thanks much,
Duane

Originals are available still on ebay - they are shared with many other Hondas.
They are easily peened with a punch and steady hand. You will need someone on the fixed end with a block of wood to support though.

I’ve used the Yamiya pins.  Here’s a pic how I’ve done mine.  I use a ball to flair open the end of the pin.  Squeeze with the channel-lock pliers to make just enough of a ridge to keep the pin from falling out.  That’s an aluminum block on the head of the pin.  Of course you have to be careful if you have a nice tank.  ;) Just another way to do it.
