Title: Oil Gallery Caps and Plugs
Post by: Wayne on March 06, 2011, 09:28:09 pm
Ordered in a couple pf parts from DSS.

15331-300-000 - Cap, Oil Path

15337-300-000 - Plug, Oil Tube

Both part numbers are shown in the 69.4 printing and did not supercede. The parts however are different. The Cap has a 14 MM hex instead of a 17 MM hex like the original and the plug (15337-300-000) is just plain too small for the hole. Thoughts anyone?

The 15337-300-000 plug changed to 15337-300-010 at E220.  I'm guessing your -000 plug would probably fit my E97.  Don't know about the cap.

Mark is of course correct - the small 000 end number plug is correct up to engine number 219. Now that was a rare NOS part to find - they only used 219 of them in production after all!

The cap never had a part number change that I know of but did change to the 14mm head type at some time in 1970, well after the end of sandcast production. There are also two types of the 17mm head cap - early type, at least to #1106 that I know of was "solid", wheras the later 17mm head type were internally hollowed out. It is obvious when you have them side by side.

Cheers - Chris R.

Thanks to everyone for the input. Looks like I can get the 15337-300-010 plug Mark suggested at DSS. That leaves me either using the smaller 14mm hex Cap or my original one which appears to be solid with a 17MM head as Chris suggested. Not a show stopper as the part can be changed after my build is complete if necessary. I'll keep my eye out for an early solid 17mm hex Cap.

In case you're wondering, I'm guessing mine was damaged when someone installed an engine guard on the bike. Just a guess.  :(

If anyone wants the 15337-300-000 - Plug, Oil Tube, well it's rare according to Chris so big bucks!  ;D  ;D Just kidding. If anyone needs it, just let me know.
