Title: Caliper castings
Post by: greenjeans on January 06, 2012, 01:02:24 pm
Ok, when I brought home mine, I took the caliper off (froze up) and put it on my shelf.

Next to it was another caliper that has been there for a while.

Now, months later, I cannot remember which is which.   Both are silver.   The only difference that I see is on the underside where the raised lettering that spells "TOKIKO"   Both have it, but one is  TOKIKO 7 and the other is TOKIKO 8.

Now I'd guess that the earlier number would be correct ?    Think I'd be allright using the one that is in slightly better shape ?

There are several differences between Sandcast (also early to mid K0) and the later K0 and the rest, but the quickest way to differentiate is to look at the back plate as seen in the picture

Is there a definitive thread about the brake calipers and their differences that I am somehow missing ?
I've been reading for hours now

Probably not but there is not much more to tell. The later type started around VIN 30,000 give or take a few thousand

My guess would be the Tokiko 7 or 8 would probably be a mold number.
