VIN's / #742
« on: December 19, 2018, 11:17:49 am »
Hi,

In the VIN's table of the site appears the Sandcast pair 578/E742.

As you can see here (video of a 1969 K0 from VIC) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=24&v=uN11jG1eyBU

the engine appears with number E1000742 and the text attached to the video indicates that "This one has an even lower frame number than the first one with the accompanying differences: number 742" so the frame number is 1000742, the same as the engine (?).

That's strange, isn't it ?

Have a good day.

Hi,

Some bikes have the tail light not really horizontal when you see the profile. So I would say that it's not the good part.

Wrong or right ?

Have a good day.

Hi,

I suppose you've seen it :

One detail, the red rear turn signal lenses. According to honda750expert.com :

Should you run across a red turn signal lens on a US 1969-78 K-model:
In America, red was not issued on 69-78 US-sold Honda 750s.
It was in some other countries and it was/is available here after-market.
One available 1975-1978 (larger type) red turn signal lens is 33402-377-810.
NOTE: some states do not allow red lenses facing front.

About the numbers, here is a list of K0 :

05/69   1001290   E1001142
05/69   1001295   E1001399
05/69   1001370   E1000720
05/69   1001375   E1001374
05/69   1001378   E1001629

General Discussion / Mystery of the red light
« on: February 08, 2018, 01:55:32 am »
Hi,

You have certainly noticed that some K0 models have a red light between the speedo and the tachometer.

This light is a "speed warning light" specific to the Japan market. It was due to the Japanese regulation at that time, the speed limit of the motorcycles on the highway was 80km/h. There were no such rules in export countries.

Today the rules have changed and the speed limit of a motorcycle on a highway is the same speed as cars (100 km/h - 60 mph).

General Discussion / K0 #31 Ebay Ad
« on: January 13, 2018, 04:19:11 pm »
Hi,

As you can see on the ad (https://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Honda-CB/222793535549?hash=item33df87903d:g:PvkAAOSwuShaWP9D&vxp=mtr)
the #31 is for sale and I asked for the engine number.

Does the VIN plate on the early sandcast indicates the building date ? In this case September of 1968.

Furthermore i can see some details on the pictures :

- the emblem on the left side-cover is not the good one, it's a right one.
- the air box comes from a K1 or a K2, the original models were smooth and available in color to match side covers.
- referring to the fender, earliest models must have at least one sharp non-rolled edge,
- mirrors should have chrome acorn capnuts at top of stem,
- the lower right exhaust muffler is not a HM300 model.

22 000 $ seems to me over priced.

General Discussion / Project 300
« on: December 23, 2017, 09:57:20 am »
Hi,

Here is a link about the book "Honda Motorcycles" by Aaron P Frank.

He says that the first "Project 300" was the N600 engine (a 598 cc twin SOHC) adapted in a motorcycle frame and Bob Hansen seems to have been the man who convinced Mr Honda to build a four-cylinder engine.

What do you think about these pieces of information ?

Engine Mechanical / Carburetors series number
« on: December 14, 2017, 11:17:40 am »
Hi,

I met a guy who have restored several K0 and K2. He told me that the carburetors have a series number marked on them.

I have never read anything about that. Someone knows about that ?

Everything K0 / Bonhams K0
« on: November 01, 2017, 08:46:54 am »
Hi,

I saw the ad below on the Bonhams site (the privately owned British auction house) :

https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/24131/lot/296/

Mains specifications :

1971 Honda CB750 K0
Frame no. CB750-1044853
Engine no. CB750E-1044917

As you can see it's specified : "One of only 36 imported to UK"

For me, these numbers come from a K1. I sent a email to Bonhams, here is their answer :

"Hi Jean,

I checked the numbers with our Honda specialist and the K0 numbers run from 1044 and the K1 start 1055 and that the K1 model only appeared I believe in 1971 as the K0 was only a transitional model.

Kind regards,

Andy

General Discussion / Strange engine number
« on: October 05, 2017, 09:22:51 am »
Hi,

As you can see on the attach image, the engine number is very strange : B750GE-1004288.

The numbers (1004288) could come from a sandcast built in july of 1969 but the beginning is so unusual...

What do you think about it ?

Thanks

VIN's / No engine number
« on: June 27, 2017, 08:23:34 am »
Hi,

You'll see in the ad below that there is no engine number... As the owner says : We believe that the engine case had been replaced a long time ago with a new one with no number".

VIN's / Real matching numbers
« on: April 10, 2017, 06:04:09 am »
Hi,

In the book of John Wyatt "Original Honda CB 750" the author wrote page 62 : "Finally, no CB 750 I know of has ever had a matching frame and engine number  - so, reader, don't panic if you are trying to work out which bike you have."

I have been recording for 3 years VIN and engine numbers from ad's, web sites, real bikes...

On ebay UK a K0 "ex Wyatt" was for sale with "real matching numbers" below :

US 12/69   1014991   E1015015      Ebay
GB 12/69   1015020   E1015020   Ex J. Wyatt !!
US 12/69   1015196   E1015305      Ebay

So ?
