I had a similar problem and after a long time I found out the oil  came from defect seals of the front forks which the wind blew on the engine fins when driving. Another possibility is cracks or a cast fault in the alunimum head.

I just finished restoring my sandcast and it looks better then new allthough not 100% orginal since it is going to be ridden on daily. Now I have put a 16 tooth socket, cheap endless O-chain made in Vietnam and a 48t rear since 45t is not that available in Denmark, now my question is do I have a problem with a coming chain break or/ and a bad cruising speed?

Congratulations on your recent purchase of 97/100E, I heard that 97/100E was on sale from a friend in Florida but  it was sold to you  before we could bid. I am glad to hear that it is more or less complete. If you could post some pictures of it we would be grateful.

Steve, here is a picture of my brother`s Velocette Venom Thruxton 1966, here in Denmark. He still does not want to trade it with my sandcast!

Sounds like a good idea I am interested, I live in Denmark, only 2 hours drive from Bojje in Sweden. I can go together with Bojje on my Sandcast. Where in UK are you thinking of?

I am restoring two sandcasts , one of them I have started with only the frame , the rest of the partsI bought on e-bay, the other with only frame and engine, but now I have managed to find all the parts except for the engine which I am still searching for !

My sandcast vin 2155 (just bought it from SOOC member Peter Ovesen ) has no washer between the carb cap top and and the carburator. My partslist say ther must be one, part no.1671-275-004. Peters partslist from 1969 does not have it.
Can anybody help ?
