Parts Wanted / Seat pan/base
« on: January 01, 2020, 07:31:30 pm »
Hi, can someone sell me a seat pan in restorable condition. It's for a 1969 CB750 K0. I have a seat with restorable vinyl but the pan has been messed with for a chopper or other model of motorcycle. I think it's too far gone for me to start grinding away at it & etc. Many thanks, TC, New Zealand

My Chomic Anodized parts are back. They look pretty good in normal light but in bright light the color is black with a grey hue. The came as matt black and I just put a mop on a drill lightly on them to put a bit of a shine on.

And just in case you're confused about "dreaming" it's typical Aussie/Kiwi banter/slang...i.e.

After a lot of searching I settled on two hoses from Diablo Cycle.

http://www.diablocycle.com/

These hoses are long necked and are correct for my 1969 diecast. And as you know if you want short necks for your sandcast kp is the man to see.

The metal neck fittings are pretty near to correct, look at the pictures and decide for yourself. I rubbed the white lettering on the rubber parts with a cleaning product then raided my daughters art supplies and found an indelible ink called Prismacolor 'Yellowed Orange.' I wound up using a combination of Yellowed Orange, Spanish Orange and Orange. They're all pretty much the same. This color most matches the factory color on my original factory fitted hoses. Note that my upper hose has no markings at all on it. The lower hose is pictured.

Of course I'm not apologizing for being a bit obsessive about these hoses. This is what makes it so much fun doing a restoration.

Thanks Ash, I'll buy one and get it chromed. That will save me the best part of $900 NZD. And from two feet away from it, no one will know that it's not "Yamiya correct"  :-X

Thanks for the input, men. I'll have to run with the Yamiya750 guard as every time I would look at the bike it would annoy me if it wasn't the best I could buy. I'm also glad that I can fit it along with a short chain guard.

Hello sandcast fans. I've a diecast K0 frame number 12300 and I have a few questions:

1. I want to fit a Yamiya short chain guard for asthetic reasons. Would this be correct for my bike?
2. I want to fit a double cut front guard. Would this be correct for my frame number?
3. The Yamiya double cut appears to be the guard of choice. However, with the New Zealand dollar at just .65 USD and factoring tax when landed at 15% and freight the cost comes out to around $1500 NZD or approximately $1000 USD. It's just a bridge too far. So has anyone an opinion of this manufacturer below?

The one from Vietnam would be $468 NZD landed but I don't like the paint on the underside.

Any comments would be much appreciated.

Or, does anyone have a repairable guard they could sell me?

Thanks, TC10

Thanks for your input Gerard.
I've since spent hours on the Internet searching some more and have found this set of hoses, they suite my long neck application perfectly, I think.

Like a mug I didn't buy any of kp's hoses when I had the chance. What's happening with the hoses? On eBay most of them appear to have a black anodizing on the metal parts. Even the ones on Yamiya750 appear to be "blacked off" on the ends and the brake pipes also look to be black with Bright Zinc Plating on the ends. My question is: Who can supply original looking hoses and a pipe, that is, that have the metal end parts in Bright Zinc Plate finish? Regards, TC10

I use brick cleaner, or suphuric acid, to clean up the bolts then polish them prior to submitting for replating. That's what the guys over on the Z1 forum do. Just dip for a second or two then rinse under running water and dunk them in a bucket of water overnight. I suppose I've done it all wrong?

I've found a company in New Zealand who will do the chromic for me. They are a high-tech aviation business so I was surprised they have agreed to do it. I'm sure they will polish the parts if it needs to be done as they have a huge reputation in the industry as surface treatment experts. Note that I have used a product called Rub 'N Buff Mandarin to highlight the red text on the controls. What is the correct color/paint? I'll post up "after" pictures when I get them done. The biggest worry for me is how to get all the wires back in correctly so that when I indicate left I don't go onto high beam or kill the engine  ;D
