General Discussion / re:clutch cover
« on: July 25, 2015, 01:39:40 pm »
;) hi guys just a quick question to all you old notables  on the forum
a very long time ago i bought polished engine covers of a guy from good old USA
anyway i used the clutch cover recently as a bolt had come out of the clutch springs and worn a grove on the inside of the cover
i always knew there was something strange about it but only noticed it today, there is no lip on the cover it is a ten hole clutch cover
any ideas what model it is off i have four other k0's and they have lips on the clutch covers strange or what :-\

;) and not forgeting the wonders of google translation.
on the subject of stories i went to look at a 1974 k2 CB750 for sale in a local scrap yard
it was in bad shape , so rather than say i was not interested i said i owned a k0 model and was looking for spares for that instead ?
he said his older brother had one of them and it was the first in wales because it had drum brakes, i laughed and said they did not have a front drum brake.he said but his brothers did(probably a CB450) .i often wondered how true this story was has he was just a kid of 16 or 17 and this was in 1984,so had nothing to verify that .we did not even have the phrase sandcast then.so imagine the rumours i could have spread if i had believed him, like i believed the story about the cb750 prototype with a 450 tank(i often wondered why honda never released it what a gorgious bike with that chrome tank
BTW this is the first time i have said this story so don't go looking for a front drum braked sandcast lol its a funny old world

;) hi James I'm also from UK and my only interest are riding the k0s as the sandcast never came here, anyways i have a set of #28 carb tops on a k0 bike that is in regular use with no problems, so I'm going to keep em until they do stick open BTW i was offered $300 for mine a some years ago .i will sell them one day along with recessed ignition and some wrinkle tanks and some bare earth straps and other k0 bits
I'm like you i own five k0s  and needs must ,i say if the carbs are well set up id keep em, but that's your call you know if you can do without them, but when they gone ,they gone ,you can only sell em once lol

Nitro Cellulous? Acrylic Lacquer?

Was it originally painted with a separate clear coat? I assume not.

;) a sprayer friend of mine has always insisted that the japs mixed the lacquer with the paint , not that i really cared , he is a ace sprayer and had many show wins with his work  8) he done two of my bikes in celluolus then lacquered them even after the stuff was banned lol now thats dedication

;) here is my opinion and some may not like it  :-*
in reality you are paying for just a engine number and a frame number and all the misery that comes with it :o
leave well alone not only is it a money pit ,they was never meant for this country ever and the word sandcast is not even a term used by Honda the CB750 is well documented in UK in that any bike shipped from japan before January 1970 never came to the UK . so leave it go back too the states where it came from I cant see any yanks clambering to buy it back . ::) I bet they was glad to see the back of it.
so why don't you get a UK bike they do turn up , better and a lot cheaper . I have five 1970-71 CB750's all  have been sourced around the UK and northern Ireland each with their own history and no registration fees if you have dealt with the DVLA  like I have you will know they are just a cash cow and what you pay them is a pittance to what that pile of junk will cost you .I am on  my last CB750 restore and it will not be a full restore like I have done in the past, because of the cost and scarcity of parts, this will be from left over bits I got left laying about it probably only owes me about a grand  ;)
I was offered two sandcasts for twelve grand each a couple of years ago I didn't pay that for the five CB750's I own and I will be lucky if I get five grand each for my best three. my bikes are in regular use and I bet any money them sandcasts are no better or faster than mine like I said  its just numbers at the end of the day and the wrong ones in my eyes. but hey its your choice anyway , I think I know your answer because you would not be asking here in the first place
 good luck finding a 1970 CB750 ;)

My recollection also is that when previously the subject of inclusion of the later die-cast "k0's" was debated, the intention was for them to run alongside Sandcastonly,
:) totally agree my view is there is no need to alter from this course ,myself being a uk member i can only dream of what could have been if the sandcast was sold here from the get go , so us poor britts got fobbed of with the k0  ::) I have never been a great lover of the name k0 and am quite happy with just the name cb750 meaning this would cover sandcast and diecast models and if this is a getting a more members exercise then perhaps we should also include the other k series aswell , but as you know we already have the sohc  clubs in uk and the usa so I don't think another one is gonna alter anything, I prefer this site for the more technical info and sohc for the more laid back info  ;) ill sit back on the fence now

;) I watched that pile of crap for the simple reason that they was showing two of most iconic bikes ever made in my lifetime and when I was just a starting out on roadbikes myself, the bikes and the owners are the real deal the rest was pure dogs bollocks this is why I don't  buy bike mags anymore
I have met john wyatt and has with other guys on this forum is very helpful and knew what he was talking about and has owned them himself and for guys like me who was just starting to get into restoreing bikes he was someone i looked up to hes a big bugger anyway lol
when I first started restoreing my cb750's the term sandcast was meaningless to me I even went to look at one that had been pulled out of the Hudson bay lol  I even saw a fellow forum members bike a red sandcast outside the shop when I left I took a photo of it only because it had such an early engine number and he is like me ,he rides his bikes I didn't comment on the bleached petrol tank or that it had come from the states I was just glad to see it , and that's one of the things john wyatt said to me use them that's what they are made for.only us being bikers know the fun we get from our machines , I don't care that I have flat key switches non wrinkle tanks chromed heat shields rounded mudguards or a sidecar twenty years older than the bike ,at the end of the day we all make our own minds up about that video but it done nothing for us real bikers ::)
