General Discussion / Re: Cylinder Head Breather Cover
« on: November 06, 2013, 04:18:55 pm »
;) hi yes so do I have the same two covers. im none the wiser though, id say the one on the right is the rarer top as I have only ever got hold of one I have had a few of the others I would think they are both related to the k0 (1970) atleast because we had no sandcasts here in the UK not in the seventies anyway im sure someone else will put you right ;) it does show the one on the right in parts book with two part numbers changing at 1010337

;) i dont think its anything special really just one of the thousands of k2~ heads that mr Honda slammed out in the seventies could be a k1 but the oil metering jets makes it at least a k2 to me or even later not sure when they changed for them type of oil jets. its not a sandcast or a k0 ::) just my thoughts on it .

:-[ just checked my spare set of nos k0 shocks ,and looks like I might have jumped the gun a bit ,they do have the plastic under the springs  and probably had chrome eyes on top and not black ,the alloy ones are too big for the spring washers also the spring collets are chrome ,I did try to make up a set of these a few months back but some of the parts are not interchangeable unless you have a set of old shocks to use as replacements  ::) sorry to add to the confusion BTW david silvers was selling these black top shocks and are listed by them as k1.  you could always send the black tops to the chromers  :-\

;) ko 's had alloy tops  and chrome under the springs  and they would be die-carbon gas filled not oil filled  I think, ::) but yes they are still a good buy at that price

here is the question what air box would you guys use original and risk it cracking or aftermarket?
;) don't chance it mate go with the repo. the original will fall to pieces with all the crap potholes here , you know its the right choice here a question back at you why do you have a blue neutral light in your clocks I have seen this before in fact it stopped me buying a clock of fleabay a few years ago but they keep turning up so they must be for real , so could it be for a particular market like japan or summit I presume yours is not a uk designated bike ::) cheers  and get on wiv  it, get it assembled and get riding this summer aint gonna last you know that  ;) and yes nice work BTW

;) no  sandcastdocter is on the money, to me the lockable key latch is a dead give away too me also

Just because the tank has the key-operated cap lock doesn't mean it was bought new in 1975. Back in the late '70's early '80's I worked at the local dealer in the service department and remember the recall requiring us to replace 100's of the 'dangerous' tank latches with the lockable ones. Wish I had just a handful of the old latches!!

I bought a non wrinkle brand new tank fifteen years ago from dave silvers only to find it had a key lock on the fuel latch latch there was a call back on them mid seventies as they could flip open during a accident, so all new tanks came with a keylock I have a k0 frame#1017*** that came a wrinkle tank and I think that's about the cut off point for all wrinkle tanks

::) does not look a repair to me it looks very intentional, im wondering if the welding was done to raise the pegs and give them more ground clearance, was  it ever raced in an earlier life? you would be surprised what them old racers got up to ;)
my first cb750 had a nineteen inch rear wheel fitted by a previous owner who said he had used it for twisty sprints and hill climbs ,he said the bigger wheel gave him more ground clearance , just my theory :-*

;) yep you've been screwed over  #2 and #3 insulators are for what they say ,they will only fit  #2 and#3  cylinders  either #2 or #3 or both but for #1 and #4 cylinders for them you will need #1 and#4 insulators and when fitted correctly  they will read #1 #2 #3 #4 clever buggers those japs  ;) don't worry you are not the first or the last to get shafted on eBay

Exhaust / Re: Which exhausts

option 3   ;) i think is you best bet,
option 4  :o  i would forget trying to bodge a set of 341's to look like 300's because real CB750 fans will spot them a mile away,on closer inspection they are very different inside as well as outside, if you gonna use the bike on the road you may as well fit the later pipes (341) , i have done this myself with one of my bikes its your choice really on how original you want the bike as it will all reflect on the sale price anyway this always seems to happen with projects, they either run out of money or rush to get it finished and cut corners as you can see on this site some owners here are very meticulous with their sandcasts and get them right down to the last detail, bearing in mind yours is not a sandcast and will not be the same value, you have done a pukka job so far, if it was my bike i would put a set of stamped 300 pipes on it but that's me, its your call, none of my bikes are show bikes , just there to be ridden so i don't worry to much about them being 100% original
option 5 ::)  is a none starter you would need to give me loads of money and body parts , i have a spare set of 300 pipes, i bought them a few years ago i knew they would only go up in price or they would dry up altogether, its a good thing they are still making copies, lets hope china can cash in like Vietnam  ;)

Yep, the K0 are hand painted,

;) yes just confirming what  KP has said, the K0 tank stripes was definitely hand painted ,come to think of it I might not have had mine from silvers ,but I did get them off eBay a long time ago, so it was probably from the states, ::) not even sure about that now

have a sort of soft oily plastic which i think might have issues with paint adhering properly

;) yes you have point there ,i have used these parts and paint does flake, but the real problem is the original plastic is brittle and will crack ,but not these they are very strong and flexible and a lot cheaper
