I'm probably the last person that will ever do this, and the 1st in 38 years. I think thats pretty cool.

The judges mentioned it's "historical significance" when making the award, which was a tough win at this show with hundreds of classic old bikes (and, thank god, mercifully few Harleys!).


On the left is my wrench and good buddy, Bobby Thompson from Winter Haven Florida who helped me prep the bike, and I'm on the right, Vince Ciotti, proud owner and member of the Sandcast club."

General Discussion / Are Sandcast Motors Faster?

Is it the cams that make the sandcast motors faster than later CB750's? I've ridden several sandcasts, K0's, and K1's,-the sandcasts are without a doubt always MUCH livelier; even the exhaust note has more snarl to it. Its also rumoured the early sandcasts were factory blueprinted and assembled w/ extra special handling. Maybe the unstamped pipes flow better. Smaller front sprocket may be a contributing factor, also. Anybody ever draw the same conclusion in comparison?

Nice work KP on the additions to the website. Its always good to learn something new about these motorcycles. I have to admit, after visiting w/ the pre-production sandcast recently unearthed (I actually SLEPT w/ it, hows that for a pipe dream?) the differences on THAT thing from any other sandcast is incredible; we're talking 99.9% unique hand-made parts. Sheesh, the clutch cover had 7 screws on it, the throttle cables were 1 into 2 into 4 and the carbs were totally bizarre. No kill switch was very strange to see, the oil pan was HUGE and drain plug at a 45 degree angle down and back. The wire harness key connector was grey but had a 300 part code label. The rear fender sure looked like a CB450 type, as did the centerstand. The whole bike was like this, so wierd. I'm so glad it wasn't me that found it, my life would be distracted no-end, permanently.
And KP, you remove chrome-plating by giving it to a chrome plater, who simply "unzaps" it.

Anybody know any sources for OEM (original equipment manufacture) tires for restorations? I'm looking for the Dunlop fronts F3 3.25-19 and both used and new.

Published Material / Dealer Recalls

How many different parts got recalled or upgraded by Honda w/ the 1969/70 motorcycles? Some parts were aggressively recalled w/ bulletins to dealers (thin throttle cables) and other bits simply upgraded on the assembly line (double and single cut front fender). My sandcast engine #E1002608 has 3 punch marks alongside the engine #'s. Anybody have a factory bulletin explaining these marks? I recall something about dealers doing this as a recall "checklist".

We are in process of ordering several sets of "no number" unstamped exhaust pipes from Japan. Somebody over there has an inside contact at Honda's exhaust sub-contractor and takes pipes off the assembly line before they get stamped on them the politically correct (and for us, incorrect) paragraphs, HM300 lettering and brake pedal indent. Apparently, these have been sporadically available for a year or 2. Back-door pipes I call them. Exact price will depend on how many we buy at once. They cost nearly double than a new normal factory set from Honda (list $1000 +-) but a quantity discount will save a considerable amount. Lets have a "show of hands" from members ready and willing to commit X amount of $ for this. Nobody makes any profit from this other than Japan supplier. A sample set is enroute soon. Somebody in States already has a couple of sets, nobody I know has seen them.
