Exhaust / fayetville un-stamped pipes.
« on: October 19, 2011, 07:27:10 pm »
Ok, No one bid on those pipes that were recently listed from fayetville NC and I'm wondering why?  I'm in contact with the guy and if he desn't sell them before I get the funds I'll probably end up buying them.  In the pictures they look very nice save the two minor scratches.  He reports that they have blemishes in the chrome but no pits or rust.  They are no # pipes with the relief in the #1 pipe and no baffles for $1100.00 plus $80.00 shiping.  My sandcast is #5640 so I'm thinking the relief is ok plus I saved my baffles from my rotted no # pipes.  Any coments or concerns would be appretiated or even help from a member neer Fayetville wiling to authenticate.  Thanks so much, Chris.

Parts Wanted / Steering lock 7879
« on: October 10, 2011, 08:35:52 pm »
Ok, I'm being picky looking for T7879 when I know that any T7### will work but I'd realy like to have the right number printed on the lock to match my ignition.

I have T6564, T9796, T1546, and T6364 if you need one of them to go with your ignition and I'm only looking for $15.00 each.

If you have a T6###, T1###, or T9### ignition I can make it work with your key but the wrong number will be evident on the lock.

I'm also looking for the early type rubber boots to go over the rear housing of a few ignitions I'm working on.  Must have the drain hole but no drain groove inside.  Must also be plyable and not shrunken.  Thanks, Chris. www.christopher_noel92@hotmail.com

Links to Auctions and Classifieds / Sandcast head W aftermarket cam
« on: November 07, 2010, 05:55:43 pm »
Found this auction with what looks to me like a sandcast head.  It comes with what the seller claims is a racing cam.  Defenitely aftermarket but I don't know what qualifies as a racing cam.  Seems like a high price to me as I have seen sandcast heads sell recently for about $350.00 but I figured I link it here. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140441059633&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Parts Q&A's and Feedback. / 9 hole clutch covers. Early vs Late.
« on: August 12, 2010, 10:12:28 pm »
Just wondering if anyone knows when the 9 hole clutch covers made the change from having a thin profile under the cable adjuster nut to a thicker profile.  I've seen these two different types now and thier could be more but this seems to be a pretty significant change.  The thin type came from an engine in the low 2000 vin range and the thicker type came from engines 5667 and 5690. Checked my part # guide that includes the cb750 through K1 but no change was specified untill 7414.  Only cover I still have is on engine 5667 so I'll try to get a picture up of that one with the area I'm talking about pointed out.

Scammers and Forgeries / Not a scam but you should know.
« on: July 21, 2010, 10:47:49 pm »
I know some of us like to score those recessed ignitions on e-bay that came on other than CB750's.  It sure is a thrill to get a very valuable ignition for less than $20.00 once in a while.  Beware of the CL175 recessed ignitions though as they are not the same as the ones we covet.  I see one for sale on ebay right now and I asked about the housing on the back.  Sure enough it is the plastic housing that I have seen once before luckily.  If someone pays a hundred or two for that thing I bet they are going to be UPSET.  I suppose if they can find the H code plug keys for it it'll pass off on a sandcast but I'd hate to be the one stuck with it.

Good luck scrounging, Chris.

Parts For Sale / Parting out CB750E-1002...
« on: July 13, 2010, 07:20:00 pm »
I'm parting out a sandcast engine in the low 2000 range.  The case and clutch cover are already sold so that's why I'm not including the last three digits of the motor.  I have the original cam and cam holders, head, block, gears, gear cover, oil pan, crank, kick starter, starter, stator, exhaust spigots, and #8 bolts galore.

The block is at my machine shop right now getting fitted with .75 over honda 300 pistons and it has one fin that has less than a dime size chunk broken off.
The head was inspected and the valves look possibly serviceable but new valves and seals are in order.   Oh yea, NO BROKEN FINS AT ALL.
The gear cover is chrome plated so you'll have to have a chrome shop remove the chrome.

I'm not offering these parts here for money unless you rea$$y want them $ad you can make me an offer.
Insead I'll trade for a compleet set of no# pipes, new condition repop or restorable with no rot and very small dents.
NICE restored sandcast drive gear guages.
CORRECT restored seat, not just a cheap ebay re-cover.
Feel free to tell me about other parts that you may want to temp me with.
If you are serious call me at 410 371-2938
Chris.

Engine Electrical / Solonoid
« on: February 22, 2010, 08:22:52 pm »
Something I noticed a while back. My solonoid wire has a gray cover. Didn't think much of it as many parts on these old bikes seemed to be either mix and matched over the years or even from the factory. I'm now thinking that many sandcasts had this gray cover over the solonoid wire because when ever I see one for sale that has obviously come from an early cb750 it is gray. These solonoids can be taken appart and I intend to get a new one and rebuild it with the original gray cover from mine. Just thought I'd share.

A while back I found a perm a poxy product that worked very well on the white plastic that Honda used on our bikes in 69. It dissapeared or so I thought untill I recently purchased their plastic weld two part in the black tube. Bingo..... just like the stuff I used a few years back. Dries almost the same white and holds super strong. Why they put it in a black tube to trick me into not buying it for a couple of years I don't know?

Paint - Badges and Component Refinishing / Paint
« on: February 17, 2010, 03:46:28 pm »
Just cuious here.

I called Color Rite a while back and they have the base Candy Silver and Candy Blue Green paint that they developed to be a match.

I have talked to others that say you can get as good a match for much less by woking with house of color paints.

Is Color Rite the best place to order paint? or is thier some place else that has the right color.

When the time comes I would also like to find a painter with expierience in applying this color as I know the final result depends on it.

Parts Q&A's and Feedback. / handlebars?
« on: February 17, 2010, 02:57:45 pm »
I'm wondering what years I can get handlebars off of? I would prefer to go by part # but If I see a set of 73,74,75,76, and so on bars would they be the same?

My cb750/cb750k1 parts list is coming in the mail now but it won't tell me if later models have the same bars.

Lighting Systems and Chassis Electrical / Stanley signal lenses?
« on: February 17, 2010, 02:47:22 pm »
I know the Stanley lenses are the original, but which of the two types I have are accurate? One type has lettering on the outer edege, and the other has the same + some lettering in from the outer edge.

The lettering in from the outer edge includes two A's that are circled.

The Archives / Cheap Parts
« on: February 17, 2010, 02:41:20 pm »
I meantioned this on SOHC4 a while back. As many of us know these bikes were a favorite to make a chopper out of in the 70's. I found a guy here in Cheyenne that has been chopping bikes since then. He let me poke around in his shed, and I left with A side cover +emblem, complete head light including signals, rear rim, four signal lenses, rear brake light lense, and a few other bits for $40.00.

If you have a chopper builder in your area that has been doing it since way back you should make friends with him. You'll be surprized what he's got just stuck in a milk crate. They like to take those pesky original parts off, and replace them with "custom looking parts". Rumage it now before he takes it to the dump this spring.

Parts Q&A's and Feedback. / Oil filter cover
« on: February 17, 2010, 02:00:53 pm »
I saw an oil filter cover sale on E-bay. The claim was that all sandcasts came with a no fins filter cover that was recalled and replaced during dealer service calls. I was thinking that my finned filter cover was original because my sandcast is not an early one.

He also claimed that his cover was previously an early finned cover with no internal reinforcing, but he had machined off the fins to make it look identicle to a no fins cover. Is this possible?

The two motors I have have differnt size bolts for the filter cover. Is the 14mm original? Or is the 17mm one original.

Thanks. Chris.

The Archives / Steve? Ft collins chrome plating?
« on: February 17, 2010, 01:58:26 pm »
I know the discustion of my spokes was almost too much to bear, but where should I take my rims for chrome plating? I would preffer some place in Ft. Collins or atleast not down in Denver.

I'll need them to be stripped and re-chromed. Is polishing necessary if they are not pitted before striping? Or does the striping process etch them and in turn require polishing.
