Review of VIN'S For Directory / Re: Frame & Engine Number Spread
« on: December 19, 2022, 07:34:45 pm »
Well just an update on the bike Ive been offered - there was a digit missing from the VIn - shazzam, it was a 9 missing from the front of the numbers, so its a diecast bike. Damn.....

Review of VIN'S For Directory / Re: Frame & Engine Number Spread
« on: December 14, 2022, 10:24:04 pm »
hi ya'all, Ive been out of the loop for a while as I sunk my inheritance into CBX's and lost my mind when a couple of those proved to be well above my skillset to fix/ get running properly...... so I engaged the great and famous Graeme Crosby and his mechanic Tony to fix my problems and all is well, albeit my wallet now has mouse-sized holes in it you could throw a CBX piston through.

So I was in New Zealand recently and a local seller of some [apparent] renown was selling a sandcast for $80,000 NZD. The frame number and engine number were 6000 numbers [give or take] apart and I suggested that he should make a note on his ad that the engine wasnt the original engine. Well all hell broke loose and he accused me of calling him a  liar, cheat and crimnal and eventually he blocked me from Trade Me [the local sales site]. Subsequently he changed the ad to make comment that the guy he bought the bike off [a renowned US restorer who he wouldnt name] had gotten a Certificate of Authenticity from the 'official' Sandcast Authority' certifying it was genuine.
While I didnt claim nor infer it wasnt genuine, all I had done was suggest [so that he couldnt ever be accused of misrepresentation] that the engine likely wasnt the original. Its currently for sale for $60,000 NZD without NZ registration or much else for documentation.
What Im seeing down there is the covid-driven collector madness of 2 years to 12 months ago has softened and prices for all 'collector' grade bikes has dropped by 10-20%, with the exception of the aforementioned CBX's, which just seem to climb higher by the day.
In one respect I hope he gets his $60,000  as its increases the value of my collection through the roof, but at the same time I could see a few years down the road a disgruntled investor being mad as hell when he cant get his money back because the engine isnt the original one. Yes it may be a 'genuine' sandcast but where does one draw the line as to its true value. I guess the market will tell us the answer to that!

On a separate matter, I have been offered frame #4262/ engine #4268 but cant find out any more about the bike other than its an older restoration, with 300 series pipes, but everything else appears on the surface to be correct. Im going to look at it over the weekend to see just how genuine it really is.  I have my 40+ item list of differences to start. Stay tuned.

Hi everyone, The new Yamiya copy pipes are sold.
I still have the used pipes available.
Thanks to everyone who enquired about both sets, I appreciate it.

Hi all,
#1
I have for sale a set of no-number pipes taken off my son's early diecast CB750.
#1 and #2 have some damage. #2 has had a stainless plate welded onto the union between the pipe and muffler and while it has been professionally done, its still noticeable.
#3 and #4 are almost perfect and would be ideal for a daily rider. They are [in my opinion] 9.7/10 grade pipes
These are located in Canada and can be shipped by either Canada Post or UPS/Fedex etc at cost.
For obvious reasons I wont separate them.
Includes original fibreglass-wrapped baffles fitted. Does not include satin finished covers.
$1700CAD for the set.

#2
I also acquired a set of new Yamiya copy no-number pipes that are surplus to my current needs. I will only post pics of the original pipes so as to not confuse the used and new pipes. Everyone knows what the new Yamiya pipes look like.
Includes full set of repop baffles. Does not include covers, either satin or chrome finish.
$2900CAD location Edmonton Canada

General Discussion / engine #456
« on: July 29, 2021, 02:46:36 pm »
Hello all, Ive been offered a bike that has engine #456 installed in a K3-K5 frame and running gear.....
Its a real mongrelski, but the engine appears to have been restamped as the "B" is clearly overstamped [B/E] and looks a little hokey....I suspect it was a warranty engine poorly stamped by the local dealer. Photos are poor, but it has four cable carbs, and the seller says it has a 9 bolt clutch cover. It doesnt have the smooth oil filter but that not a concern to me as such.
Further, its been painted black and I cant tell if its a real sandcast or not.
Next problem is finding a matching frame and that appears to be why the bike hasnt sold already as anyone with any knowledge of these bikes would be facing the exact same issues Im facing in trying to determine is it real or a scam? and without a frame to match then of course its value is only $X.
Id be surprised if someone on this site doesnt already know about the bike and has maybe passed judgment on it already.
Comments please. And what is the motor worth? Its in Canada.

thats a great solution as I have four of the later model sleeves....I can get new ones machined from bronze for $70 each and was considering getting 10 made which would reduce the price to $50 each, and then offering them for sale to members. I surely cant be the only one who has major slop at the top sleeve on K0-K1 forks, and can't justify the 67 Euro bill from CMSNL, plus shipping, plus duty and taxes.....
$50 CAD, thats about 19 US dollars isnt it?? ;D

UPDATE FOR THOSE WHO MAY FACE THIS PROBLEM
I purchased new fork tubes from Vintage CB750.com and all new damper and guide sleeves and circlips from CMSNL at their typically outrageous prices, but so be it.
When I assembled the forks using the information gleaned from this site and the various manuals and experts on the SOHC forum, I had a problem in that the damper sleeve was fully covering the damper bleed holes and couldnt move either direction.
So I flipped the damper sleeve upside down and it now works with the bleed holes being covered/uncovered as needed as the forks go up and down.
According to the manuals this is wrong but it works so Im leaving it as is.
Second issue is that my bronze top guide sleeve is stuffed, so Im off to see a machine shop today to see if they can make me 10 sets at a reasonable price. The clearance on my top sleeve varies from 1/32 to 1/16" at various point around my chopper forks.
Thankfully the bottom tolerance inside the lower fork case is OK, it seems the top sleeve took all the pain from the super-extended forks.
If I can get these top sleeves manufactured at a reasonable price Ill offer the remainder for sale at my cost. There surely must be demand as Ive searched worldwide for replacements and CMSNL is the only known source, currently at 67.00 euros each, which is about $100 CAD.....
