Title: Need Info Pleae
Post by: Handyandycustoms on September 29, 2013, 04:40:27 pm
Hello all
My name is Andrew and I live in Nashville TN
I have had several cb750s and currently have 5 in diferent states of running and needing repair
But what leads me here is info from you all
I think, at least from the serial # on the engine block, a sandcast serial # 1086.
So the info I need is if this is a sandcast engine, how do I verify that, how do I verify that the rest of the engine ie the head and internals are original or are sandcast period and if it is verified is it worth keeping to start a sandcast project?

All opinions are welcomed.

Thanks

Ciao

Andrew

Hello Andrew,

If your engine number is indeed CB750E-1001086, that is within the sandcast range.  To check if the cases are true sandcast, and not restamped diecast, count the number of bolt holes for the clutch cover.  9 holes means sandcast cases, and 10 holes means diecast.

Pictures help us with offering opinions of value, and restoration worthiness.  I can say, some people start with just a frame, or a motor and build from there.  Any sandcast is worth trying to save, in my opinion.

Cheers!
Gregg

Hello Gregg
Thanks for the info. I will post some pictures as soon as I get back home. We are on holiday at the moment.
And I will give a gander to the clutch cover as well.

Thanks for the assistance

Ciao

Andrew

Well here is the vin# plate showing 1001086.
But the trams cover has 10 bolts as far as I can tell
So what is you opinion of this engine
Thanks
Andrew

Sorry, no sandcast engine. Even not original letters in e. number. Maybe cases were changed due the sandcast cases demage. And also maybe somebody just wants to make it "sandy".

You need to take a picture of the side cover from a side on view so we can see all the cover. The number punching is not factory but the VIN plate has no ridges like the die cast type but it could have had a set of numbers machined off. See if you can also get a photo of the cases directly on top towards the rear mount (above gearbox)
Also it this only a motor or is there a frame with a frame number? KP
