Title: Members average age.
Post by: Riccardo on February 01, 2014, 03:03:10 pm
It would be really interesting to know the average age of members of the SOOC.
So we constantly check to see if the interest for our beloved motorcycle it is cultivated also by young people more than we do, or that we were just us alone!
I think that the data can be easily extrapolated from the registration cards of individual members.
It's only an idea.

I'm 57.

I would like to explain myself better.
My intention was to insert a progressive counter in the site system that we could say the average age (medium age) of the members.
So from this statistic could monitor whether the average age tends to go down or up.
In this way we know whether the interest in these bikes can involve more young people or the no longer young, observing the trend.
I think Wayne is able to do this, placing a medium counter:
the sum of the ages of all members / the number of members.
All subscribers ' data are already in the system, in every single page of registration is the date of birth.

Maybe it's just my mind saw!

Yep Riccardo It's your mind.
Mate, we who were there in 1969 are getting older so the obvious conclusion is that every year there are going to be a fair number of budgies http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budgerigar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budgerigar)
and galahs hitting the bottom of the cage (falling off the perch) so this tells me that the average age at some time will go down not up for this little pink and grey (for the yanks out there a pink and grey "not gray" is a galah and a galah is an Australian parrot that has become somewhat of a collectable, not unlike a sandcast, and lives most of its life here in Oz in the wilds of outback Australia).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galah (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galah)
Ya still with me here Jimmy?
Well in most other countries the pink and grey is in a cage and when its time is up it falls off the perch and hits the bottom of the cage. We're all are going to the tin bottom at some stage. So the mean average age should go down, a bit like me ................... going down f'kn hill at a very fast rate of knots. (I'm not going there with the knots thing)   Grin
I'm sure Mr Swan will have a plausible answer to my theory

I downloaded the MySql database and had a look at the birth date field. Most members left it at 0001-01-01. In other words they did not fill the birth date field in when they registered. Had they filled it in I could have run an an average on the column and given us the average age of members.

I just turned 56. :)

i have added my age to my profile.
Title: Re: Members average age.
Post by: Wayne on February 03, 2014, 09:12:16 pm
On another note, if everyone were to update their profiles with their birth dates not only could I post the average age of our members but we would also see members birthdays on the main page at the bottom. In turn, we could get a bit more personal on here like so many other communities and make sure those days are recognized with a simple Happy Birthday post. Now on my birthday, if someone wants to give me a nice red K0, feel free! ;)

PS: I'm considering trading 576 as trade or partial trade for a nice one. Any takers?

For many years we went looking for small differences in production.
We dug far and wide to discover more and more of these bikes.
We talked about restoration, and we have tried to ensure the best techniques to reproduce the originality of 1969.
We wanted a time machine.
Today it seems to me, even after the recent auctions on ebay, that all of us would like to find a perfect, immaculate, unmolested, one owner bike, as well as the day of the sale, only to clean up for good, leaving a little also the signs of aging.
In truth, over the last year have been sold many beautiful motorcycles, but I also think that views closely aren't exactly as in the pictures.

So I'm not the youngest with 45 in 6 months time as Sandcast owner/user, though after some 10 years on a BMW R69S. and of cause the legal age even before.

Bravo to the young members !   Very good to see young members with machines.  The sandcast is becoming an unaffordable bike for the many who now know what the term sandcast means.  At this time, one can still find a sandcast for a reasonable price, rapidly fewer and fewer being found.  Same as early American and British bikes used to be, could find cheap barn finds, were gathered up, now anything pre-unit or pre-war is expensive.

Hello Riccardo!
It's been a long time (4 years) since me and my vife visited you ang had the pleasure to see your wonderful sandcasts. Sorry it was too hot (41 degrees Celsius) that time, it was much too hot for swedish "snowman". I really hope there will be another time to see your bikes again.
Next week my vife and me are going to Florida for a 10 days ship-cruise in the Karibeeans. On Saturday 12/3 I have some time and I might find somethin on two wheels before leaving for sweden again.
Best Regards from Rose-Mari and Bojje.

Time to update my age !!!!!!!
I purchased a Sandcast from Bennett & Honda Sydney in Nov 1969 (age 19)Traded a Velocette Thruxton.
Wish I still had it but marriage got in the way.
New knee's in 2015,still got them.
Can't ride the Velo Thruxton anymore, very hard to start with metal knee's.
But Still can ride the Honda.
