Title: Main oil gallery plug
Post by: Tony Wohlers on February 22, 2010, 02:57:45 pm
Can You brave member's in here tell me about the main oil gallery plug on the right side off the upper engine case--are this plug just polished or is it cromed.I think it's polished but i am not shure??
I have read Vic vorld's notice about painting the engine cases, and i think if looking around the startermotor the paintjob on my 1005948 is Honda made.

I have to clean the old engine paint of the cases, are the best solutions bead blasting with tiny plastic---

I would suggest the plug is as it comes out of the die. Maybe polished but certainly not chromed.
Engine cases are best cleaned by blasting with a soft media. Vapour blasting is perfect for sandcast cases. KP

Anyone know what size hex is on the plug?  I have two different sizes and I can't remember which one came off E100.

17mm indeed. They were also fitted to die cast K0's which actually had three of them fitted (two additional ones in the underside of the lower) crankcase), which provides a possible alternative source of them.

As an aside, there appears to be at least two variations of the 17mm head oil gallery plug - ones which are solid, and ones which are recessed internally. E302 and E1106 both have the solid type.

Cheers - Chris R.

I finally found one of my solid plugs.  One that I think it will clean up real nice.  Thanks for all your help.
