Title: Repair of the electrical harness Gauges
Post by: 4pots1969 on February 05, 2015, 09:10:10 am
I bought the tool of crimping, different lugs Japanese with the protections in silicone, as well as the glossy black sheath, not at all sure the departure of the final result, but the result goes far beyond my expectations... The rendering is perfect, you will notice that I opted for copper instead of the original white lugs. The tool for crimping is very good..
I advise you to put TALC on the wires and the sheath to facilitate sliding and to protect wires... The black sheath that I used is the 7mm.

Thanks guys, the compliments make me happy...:D, But I must confess that I long hesitated before cutting the old terminals in order to change the black glossy sheath...

Nice work Gerard.  Thanks for sharing.  Now I wont be afraid to try more wire repairs.

For those who haven't seen it, here is a link to a Honda service bulletin that may be helpful for wire repairs.

Thanks you Mark, It's very interesting, it was reserved for Agents dealers Honda newsletters? It is it?

I'm not sure about who it was for but if it's on the internet it can't be a secret.  ;)

Gerard,
I have a couple of questions about your terminals.  Did you use the brass colored terminals because you couldn't get the silver colored ones?  Do you put the clear insulators on the wire before you crimp the terminal?  The reason I am asking is I have a -040 wire harness in decent shape except for the insulators are yellowed.  I would like to replace the insulators and I'm wondering if I could do that without replacing the terminals.  Also wondering if the silver covered terminals are available.

Mark,
I put those made of copper, because I think it is best for connections, but it's just a personal choice...
Because if you look at the lugs of the electrical circuit in the lighthouse, they are all in copper...
And I put the insulator over the wire before you crimp the terminal.
If you want to replace the insulators must be cut the terminal put a new insulator and crimp a new terminal.
You want to talk about the models that I surrounded?
That I bought at AES, the second link.
Gerard

Thank you.  That is very helpful.  I looked at the AES site for 3.5mm terminals but did not see them.  Am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks, you are better at navigating the French website than me. :D But I am still a bit confused.  AES terminals are 3.9mm but I understand the Honda terminals to be 3.5mm.  Do the terminals you received from AES fit the Honda terminals?

It connects without any problems... Because the female Terminal is open...
Just slightly tighten the female 3.9 mm lugs.

??? But a 3.9mm AES male connector will have a problem going into a 3.5mm Honda female connector.  In other words if I put the 3.9mm AES male connector on my wire harness it won't fit to the mating devices that already have the 3.5mm female connectors.

Just tighten gently with pliers AES 3.9 mm female connector screws a screws of the Honda 3.5 mm male connector and it is good and it would like very well.
For the AES 3.9 connector you press it slightly in strength in connector 3.5 Honda which is not closed and that deviate necessarily...All right? I have not managed to find Connector 3.5 mm on the internet...

Yes, thank you Gerard.
The link that I posted has the part numbers for the Honda 3.5mm terminals.  They are available many places but I have not determined if they are available in the tin-plated version.
