Title: Correct Oil Sticker On Oil Tank Side Cover?
Post by: markb on October 05, 2015, 07:27:41 pm
I got this from Yamiya recently.  It is larger and way different than the ones I’ve gotten before from them.  Is it correct?

Hi Mark
You give so much to the group with your posts, I'm surprised that you've had no response to your question from our large group. Surly someone has an original sticker they can photograph and post.
I've checked this with an original photo I have and to me it looks to be a near perfect copy. The placement of the fonts are the same and the bottom tail on the letter E is longer than the top. Most copies have the top and bottom tail the same length.
As for font thickness a bit hard to compare from photographs but still looks to be good. Yamiya's stuff is usually correct. Hope this helps
KP

Thanks for the input.  I should post a pic of the one I have from a while ago.  I probably didn't get it from Yamiya.

Oil Sticker is 80mm wide by 25 mm!
It´s the original.
Cover was only on for the first month.
Made the bike too broad!
The left one blew away on day 3.
Was never replaced. Though I got a new one.
Friend made me a frame-flat glass fibre thing.
         Youers Erling.

So does anyone have a picture showing the location?

Mark, i looked through all my literature and only found 2 pictures one really poor and one slightly less poor, but not poor enough to form sort of an an opinion.

My opinion, the sticker should be placed so there is approximately 1/8" border of paint on the top and left side of sticker.  The top area, the side cover has a raised area, so obviously one cannot place sticker on raised area.  So, a 1/8" border of paint from where the raised area of cover begins.

Interestingly enough, owners manual and shop manual have same picture of RH cover showing no sticker !

Are we pretty sure that a sticker was used on VIN's as early as 97?

My sicker is placed 10mm from raised area and 8mm to the right of hole.

Mark, i'm looking through my literature collection for what "evidence" i might find.

the 4.69 parts book calls for sticker beginning vin 1.

Looking through my magazines more thoroughly, i do see a picture in the Sept.69, page 57, "Cycle Guide," magazine, a road test of a blue-green CB750.  The machine in pics clearly shows a sticker.  incidentally, in another picture of master cyl, the cap is clearly a machined cap. and the horn is a LH grey body, which is same as pics in the March 1970 of "MotorCycle" magazine, where the tester of the blue green machine used in that article noted the engine to be "CB750E-1000024" which also has a grey body horn and a machined cap.  The "MotorCycle" tester also noted they had waited some time for other magazines to finish their testing before they could have access to the machine for testing.  The test was noted by the author to have taken place late Autumn, as seen in a beautiful back cover picture.   i am making the deduction, the year of the road test was Autumn 1969 and the machine used in this "MotorCycle" magazine test was probably the same unit as seen in "Cycle Guide," Sept.69.  Page 59, of this March 1970 "Motorcycle" magazine, clearly shows a sticker on the machine with E24.  Based on pictures from these period magazines, of what appear to be early vin units havine LH grey horns and machined master cyl reservoir caps, i would say, 97 should have a sticker.

Thanks Steve.  You've got me convinced.  Thanks for taking the time to check it out.  I notice your locations are slightly different that Erling's.  They were probably put on by hand and not all the same.  I figure if I split the difference I should be good.

wow..... !   i think i'd go by what Erling actually measured...... an original placement of original sticker.  hard to beat that !

i actually guessed ........  based on a sticker i stuck on   where i stuck the sticker, just looked "right" to me...... !!!  ;D

and as you say, no 2 sticker positions were exact from factory, but i will bet they would not let them be put on crooked.... !

Like Markb said Probably put on by hand. This one does not look parallel to the raised area!
Mine is absolutely parallel to raised area.

Quite frankly, I think that the placement of the sticker is the mm near... Several more or less assiduous workers (Not very awake in the morning and in the evening very tired...) ;D should put this information on the cover sticker and this explains these small variations of positioning...
When I put mine, I'll close your eyes to be sure there is the correct position!! lol  ;)

Thanks for all the input.  The photo is especially helpful.  It looks like I won't have any trouble putting it in the "right" place.  ;)
