Title: Clearcoat
Post by: hondasan on February 23, 2010, 05:46:12 pm
Would be interested to know what "brand" of clearcoat is being used for alloy items such as wheel hubs, fork lower cases, engine covers, etc?
A couple of guys at Ohio said they were using a "Eastwoods" product - is there a specific product code for this.
I am looking for something in an aerosol can, and which hopefully I can get in the UK.
Thanks - Chris R.

I found this info on another site:

" I've been trying to follow the aluminum refinishing procedures of Vic World, well known as the best restorer of sandcast CB750's. In a past issue of Moto Retro Magazine, he outlined his aluminum refinishing techniques, but unfortunately didn't give quite enough specifics for me to nail it all down. He mentioned the use of a chemical treatment that seems to do the same as  Alodine 1001 (see links below). Vic World, I am told recommends using Chromic Acid Solution (H2CrO4 20% from http://www.chemical-supermarket.com (http://www.chemical-supermarket.com)) for promoting adhesion of the final laquer clearcoat"

Anyone know how to get the satiny finish on the alloy to begin with?

NOTE: Chromic acid is a known carcinogen (safety data on above links website)

Hi, this is my personal experience...
I bought ALUFILM 4040.
In this link you can see the product and the datasheet:

Do you know what issue, month/year?

Hi to All.

I agree with ack3r.

I tried in the past to buy from Eastwood, but is hazardous shippment and the costs are high expensive.

For the Europe is a different thing, because this tread was started by Hondasan, i think the RESTOM paint is very good if the procedure will be respected.

About alloy finishing, i think that today we are going to hiper-restoration of these bike, in '70 years i do not think that in the Honda production line they was so refinished and the alloy so brilliant.

The alloy was "medium" polished, not hiper polished like a mirror.

Hi I am  thinking of buying this product. Does it come with a datasheet in English? Is it applied and then baked? Is anything required to prep the satinized surface for adhesion promotion?
