Title: Alternator covers
Post by: Garry32 on July 29, 2016, 10:58:26 am
Hi Mark, On your sandcast 87 refurb on page, page 35 you showed a picture on two thin lipped alternator covers
they where both clear coated, then you where about to paint the Honda logo black(Matt black I take it ).
Can I ask is that the correct procedure Polish,Clear coat, then paint the Honda logo, Why not polish, paint the Honda logo then clear coat.

I take it it is so the Honda logo keeps the matt black look is that correct ?.
Thank you Garry :) :)

Hi Garry,
Painting the logo then clear coating would be easier. I am not sure which is correct but my covers definitely looked like they were painted after the clear coat. It probably wasn't done the way I did it. For one thing it would take too long and I also had to be very careful removing the excess paint without hurting the clear coat.

Ok mark, thank you for the reply.
I think I will clear coat Last and if the finish looks too much of a gloss finish I can always repaint.
Thank you Garry :) :🇬🇧

That's the way I feel about some things. As long as you're not doing something that can't be undone it doesn't hurt to try.
