Saw this frame on Ebay being passed off as sandcast 5337. First thing that jumped out at me was the VIN stamp. It's digitally altered! OK, maybe he was just trying to make it stand out more?? ;) (see black shadows drawn into the characters. Also notice how VIN stands out, almost 3D instead of appearing stamped in??) On closer inspection of the neck area I now believe that the whole VIN area may have been "cloned" in. You can see the transition of the gray and speckling starting just under the VIN. As well, there are tabs on the rear seat cross member, and a tab on the right side rear motor mount. Thoughts folks??

If you look closely, you will also see it has the longer rear shock mounting gussets (go all the way back to the rear seat support loop, rather than stopping short), AND it has the rear brake pedal height adjuster "stop" only fitted to the K2 and later. Definately not "right".

It has a bid in it. Someone is going to be an unhappy camper when they don't see that VIN on the neck!!
-
Keen observations, you two !
-
If you look really closely you can see the oval has been filled in behind where the battery goes. Also it appears in one of the photos that the original vin has been ground off to accomidate the bootleg vin. I don't recall the helmet holder tabs either on the sandcast frame.

If I could compare the numbers with me it's true, at least in terms of numbers.

:o jeez you gotta be so careful with this sandcast stuff . Honda CB750 k0's are my poison, and what Joe k says about the filled in oval gusset behind the battery does it for me so it ain't even a k0 frame, and Chris r has shown it ain't a sandcast. :-* happy days

Who makes these scams. Ebay should be told, or. >:(

Same guy, same blasting method, different scams.
Definitely a newer frame! Helmet holders and more on a Sandcast!? :o

HAHA! Love that the "A.S.S." is catching on! ;D

This is a message that I sent to the seller on Ebay for the frame. I haven't heard back from him yet.
Dear theyankeepicker,
Hi,
I am not sure you know but the frame number has been changed. There is evidence in the photos that the frame is from a later model bike (post 1972). Just want to make sure you don't have a problem with the buyer or have them pay a lot of money for the frame when it's not authentic.

You will also notice in his other items sandcast engine cases with a missing vin stamp block ::) fishy
Amazing how a sandblaster can covert a diecast into a sandcast.
No returns

Well I gave up being an eBay policeman some time back but every now and then one must do what one must do. This guy is a very suspect seller and he knows exactly what he's doing. May I suggest we all send him a comment about his deception. At least he will get the message that he is being watched. KP
-
I agree KP. I'll do it.
-
I will also do it.
-
Yikes!!!! $1,270.00 with a day left! Somebody is going to be peeved when they take delivery!!
-
i sent the seller a notice also. told him i know he has received notices from knowledgeable sandcast people; his frame not authentic.
-
The bidder has zero rating, this is weird, this is totaled, I have notified Ebay, but I think that will do anything.

eBay will do zip about it. eBay are a very equitable company when it comes to sellers and buyers. They screw both equally ;D
-
I have done the same and reported it to eBay and posted a warning on the SOHC 4 Forum.

Yankeepicker also had a set of later carburetors billed as sandcast. The single one listed now looks legit but I could have sworn he was the one trying to hock a whole set as a scam.
Looks like smithplace2004 and a couple others like the scam/forgery sales tactic too. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-HONDA-CB750K0-CB750-CB-750-K0-CARB-CARBURETOR-INSIDE-LEFT-BODY-SANDCAST-/290742591397?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43b19bdfa5&vxp=mtr (http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-HONDA-CB750K0-CB750-CB-750-K0-CARB-CARBURETOR-INSIDE-LEFT-BODY-SANDCAST-/290742591397?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43b19bdfa5&vxp=mtr)http://www.ebay.com/itm/honda-cb750-k-ko-sandcast-1969-carbs-replated-hardware-/251163340400?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a7a806e70&vxp=mtrhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/69-70-Honda-CB750-K0-Sandcast-Carburetors-Carbs-Carburetor-16100-300-303-/170906637878?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27cad45636&vxp=mtr (http://www.ebay.com/itm/honda-cb750-k-ko-sandcast-1969-carbs-replated-hardware-/251163340400?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a7a806e70&vxp=mtrhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/69-70-Honda-CB750-K0-Sandcast-Carburetors-Carbs-Carburetor-16100-300-303-/170906637878?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27cad45636&vxp=mtr)
Lies denials and counter accusations are all you'll get if you try to police them though.

wackiwayne has been around quite some time. i bought a part from him several years ago. He's been around CB750's a long while. I don't recall ever having heard he's disreputable.
-
The bidder has zero rating, this is weird, this is totaled, I have notified Ebay, but I think that will do anything.
The top two bidders both had a zero rating. I wonder if the seller recruitied a couple of buddies to help him bid it up. If so it probably didn't actually sell. The last bid from a buyer with a non-zero rating was $205. The SOHC site has a thread for seller reviews. I wonder if we should start a thread listing questionable sellers. Shouldn't be a problem as long as we keep it to the facts.
-
You are probably right Markb. Looking forward to see the next VIN on the same frame :)

-
Mark, i think having a category, "Seller Reviews" is a grreat idea. I would imagine Wayne will see this and he could create the category. Or, would you contact Wayne and let him know group concensus asks him to build that category ?
-
Yep, I'm on it! :) Looking at the SOHC board they have set up: "Good Sellers" .... "Bad Sellers" .... "Vendor Reviews" and another one I kind of like .... "Services Wanted". That might come in handy for members who may not have the expertise/tools to get the job done. Let me know and I'll set them up.
-
Wayne, you saw it before I could contact you. I think all three are a great idea!
-
My preference would be "seller reviews." I don't care for the "good/bad" title. And, i agree completely w/ Mark; keep our comments factual and objective. We are all good at doing that.
"Services Wanted" is a good category, also.
Thanks Wayne !

Agree Steve, I've not had a problem with the stuff I've bought from wackiewayne and seems knowledgable about the parts he sells from where I sit
-
I have also received a parts from wackiwayne with good results. Marty K.
