VIN's / #742

Hi,

In the VIN's table of the site appears the Sandcast pair 578/E742.

As you can see here (video of a 1969 K0 from VIC) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=24&v=uN11jG1eyBU

the engine appears with number E1000742 and the text attached to the video indicates that "This one has an even lower frame number than the first one with the accompanying differences: number 742" so the frame number is 1000742, the same as the engine (?).

That's strange, isn't it ?

The Honda product number is 84710 300 620 unfortunately unavailable in CMS site.

Hi,

Some bikes have the tail light not really horizontal when you see the profile. So I would say that it's not the good part.

Wrong or right ?

#1002196 was sold for 35 000 USD !! The frame number on the steering column is not very "beautiful".

#1000565 seems not to be sold.

#1006725 was sold for endue 41 000 USD

2 diecast was sold for 15 000 USD et 20 000 USD.

Hi,

As you can see below on an extract from a table I made, I deduced your bike has very likely been built in june of 1969 :

The building date #3412 seems strange but not impossible, knowing that Honda didn't manage engine an frame numbers.

Hi,

Since 2014 I note the frame and engine numbers from K0, K1, K2 on ebay ads. Originally it was to know the building date of my K2. So :

1 - The american bikes have the frame number ant building date indicated on the VIN plate, so I can deduce the building date (month / year) of a bike when the frame number comes between two VIN numbers. I also note real bikes and ad's from Bonhams and other sites.

2 - The first K0 did'nt have VIN plate but the "Sandcastonly" list allowed me to note the numbers...

And it works pretty well to detect the "matching numbers" as well.

Here it is, in blue (frame #1001966, engine #1002074). The two previous one and the following two are from may 1969 (source Sandcastonly) so the "blue one" is from may 1969. You win !

One detail, the red rear turn signal lenses. According to honda750expert.com :

Should you run across a red turn signal lens on a US 1969-78 K-model:
In America, red was not issued on 69-78 US-sold Honda 750s.
It was in some other countries and it was/is available here after-market.
One available 1975-1978 (larger type) red turn signal lens is 33402-377-810.
NOTE: some states do not allow red lenses facing front.

Hi,

You have certainly noticed that some K0 models have a red light between the speedo and the tachometer.

This light is a "speed warning light" specific to the Japan market. It was due to the Japanese regulation at that time, the speed limit of the motorcycles on the highway was 80km/h. There were no such rules in export countries.

Today the rules have changed and the speed limit of a motorcycle on a highway is the same speed as cars (100 km/h - 60 mph).
