Yes you are right about a longer guide will better support the valve stem! I have not checked but how deep is the valve (and valve spring retainer) going down to the guide in full motion? It must be a minimum play between the valve end and the valve guide. To be able to put a seal on top you maybe had to have a shorter guide to match that. Just a thought!

If you put a seal on top of the left one, wouldnīt it be about as long as the right one?

Engine Mechanical / Re: Clutch assembly
« on: October 28, 2017, 07:54:19 am »
Hi Sgt Pinback, Itīs not so easy to explain but it is obvious when you see it. If you press a spring fully together you can mesaure the springs length fully compressed. If the spring is made of thicker wire the spring will be shorter in compressed length. Thats what happened with my new "replacement" springs. When i fully bolted the clutch together there was no room left for movement in the spring - the spring wires were bond together. If someone of you with english as natural language understand this and can find better words and ways to explain i t would be helpful.

I tried to change to new springs. It was then impossible to open the clutch. I realized that the springs wire were thicker than original so they bound with each other when the clutch screws were tigthened. I changed back to the original springs and voila! everything worked.

Thank You! :)
The bluegreen is now updated with a Sandcast engine but of course not the original as that one was missing.
Both works like charm and I rebuilt them 2012 and 2014 respectively. Ca 5000 km each today.

No, I didnīt have the original lower steering stem at all. A lot of parts were missing or of later years. It was a mix of CB750 parts in boxes I bought and actually it was two sandcasts (one frame with missing engine block though). I had to rely heavily on Ebay to get my Sandcasts in true fashion (for example the steering stems wich became the american model). I also have a original 1975 K2 (they kept the look mostly as K2:s in Sweden up to 1976, just changed some minor details). On that bike I have this Neiman steering lock.

Hi, You always learn something new!

My 5084 and 5128 must be two of these german bikes as they both have this theftcover and the VIN on the right side. (I live in Sweden).

I bought both of them in boxes with lots of missing parts so there were no winkers, exhaust etc left. I restored them both to the American style but as I understand of this discussion they should have some other parts regarding light switch, winkers, neiman-lock and so on. For now I think Iīll keep them as they are  :-\

I attach a pic of 5084 steering head.

Yes, I already had the revised 1975 #15 bulletin as Mark B shared. My question is if someone have a copy of the first edition of #15 with the wheel hub stuff.

General Discussion / Re: VIN and Engine Number Spread
« on: April 28, 2016, 02:32:09 am »
One important issue for Honda should be spare parts. In the parts lists all items are referred to frame Vin numbers, also the engine parts. In order for the customer to get the right engine parts Honda had to connect changed engine parts with fixed frame numbers. I know this is not correct every time but worth consider when E-vin are paired to frame Vins. Parts for the french sandcast will be very odd with this reasoning.
