Thanks guys, cleaning up the smaller bits, I forgot about the horn bracket::) I took this completely apart 10 yrs ago & dug out a pan of  black parts  that  got messed up sitting! I just ordered an ultrasonic cleaner to try & might try a homemade plating for the hardware? I read somebody did it…I think Terry from Australia iirc was very successful:) aI have an old plastic cooler & a battery charger! :)

I’m not a painter so I’ll probably have to use rattle cans for frame, swing arm center & kick stands & then I also have the triple trees. Wondering the consensus, Thanks
I did clean up & sanded with 003 steel wool.

Hi all, I joined 10 yrs ago when I got my 1033xxx  & then stored it. I want to repaint frame & engine cases first as well as clean out the gas tank first. I read where vinegar(white I assume) is used- just fill it up for a week? I read using molasses too so not sure? I’m wondering which paint & color for frame & cases too?

New Member Introductions / My early ko needs reincarnation
« on: January 20, 2023, 12:02:45 pm »
Hi guys! I joined this forum  10 yrs ago when I got & disassembled my 33xxx ko, then I got busy with my family & it went to the back burner lol.
Now I’d like to reassemble but torn between trying to keep it original or not? Should I spray paint frame, have it painted or just leave it as is?? I also disassembled engine & cleaned & washed cases & will be resealing stock engine. Build date is 4/70 with 9k or so on it & last registered in the early 80’s. Has the 4 into 1 carb cables etc. I rushed the disassembly & cracked up the pained air box:( which needs to be glued up somehow still. I worked for a master builder of these back in the early 70’s  who specialized in street racers at the time. Those were some good times!

Parts Q&A's and Feedback. / Re: Oil Seals
« on: October 04, 2013, 07:02:37 pm »
Kind of where I was coming from. Having worked in the auto industry for more years than I like to count. I got a real eye opener when I started working on the "inside" and seeing what the impact was to the product due to aftermarket parts not meeting spec. I remember harmonic balancer oil seals cutting grooves on the balancer seal surface. Analysis showed too much tension on the seal surface and inadequate lubrication for the seal. Root cause = Aftermarket Part did not meet spec. What did the aftermarket guys do? hehe They made a ring you could drive on the balancer sold you yet another seal and told you the people who engineered your car didn't know what they were talking about!  ??? All they had to do in the first place is buy a seal that met spec but so many people won't buy OEM. I think I answered my own question on this one. I'll put together my parts number list for my Honda Seals.
Absolutely 100% correct! It's rampant ......

Engine Mechanical / Best place for gaskets set?
« on: October 03, 2013, 07:43:11 pm »
I've got a 70 KO (33xxx iirc) I tore it down to freshen up, had very low miles. I'd like to get a complete gasket & seals kit and possibly new bearings..? I worked for a guy who use to repair and build these all the time back in the early 70's...those were the days! haha anyways, I know there's just a couple "good" places now:( Like Vesrah http://4into1.com/vesrah-complete-gasket-set-vg-156-honda-cb750-1970-1973/]http://4into1.com/vesrah-complete-gasket-set-vg-156-honda-cb750-1970-1973/]http://4into1.com/vesrah-complete-gasket-set-vg-156-honda-cb750-1970-1973/  and cb750...http://www.cb750supply.com/products/4/engine  not sure but want good or maybe the best? Engine Mechanical / Cylinders/jugs won't break free
« on: January 11, 2013, 09:50:38 am »
Man! can't get the jugs to let loose from base gasket and I don't want to pound a freakin screwdriver or something in-between jugs and cases....screwing it up? I'm not even sure if there are indeed any "tricks" for this operation?

More on the output shaft. Evidently "in 1972 Honda issued a dealer change order on existing inventory and then changed the parts (Bearing and shaft) because of bearing failure and then added a chain guide so if disaster struck, the chain would feed out the bottom of the sprocket without punching a hole in the engine case. The old bearing was a 6305 and was changed to 5206 double row radial ball bearing." Of course back then were different times and alot of folks rode 'em much harder than a vintage collector would these days. That being said, it might just be that that was a strong contributing factor of the failure? I don't know as of yet but Honda proactively stepped up with a design change undoubtedly either to fend off negative product image and/or the cost of warranty repairs.

Now that I got an old 750, I got in touch with my ole friend who I worked with/for back in the early 70's fixing motorcycles. He was well known in the area for his expertise and specialized building street race engines in particuliar (he was a certified Honda tech too). These first models had the skinny bearings that would fail/seize causing shaft breakage...which would also usually take out the rear case halves too..:( Honda developed a dbl. roller bearing which corrected this problem and since the bearing width is greatly increased, sunseqently the collar/shaft is wider too and best to replace both at the same time. In fact when I contacted him on this early 750, that was one of the first things he reminded me to do"Replace that output shaft and bushing"! LOL!
I was just thinking...Prolly more so if you get on it and/or holeshots maybe? iirc he said the bearing gets dry and/or it seizes...
