General Discussion / Re: Covering on Original Levers
« on: November 09, 2020, 08:23:16 pm »
My two cents-
The clear coating is very consistent in thickness and length. I soaked a piece in lacquer thinner and it did not disintegrate after one hour, I don't believe they were painted. Brake fluid doesn't seems to effect or degrade the coating.
I am thinking they are covered with a very thin tubing and not dipped or painted.
Clear when new, but yellows and becomes brittle with age.

Front End and Suspension / Re: Rear shocks on a 1969

Sam post is spot on.
Looks like the wrong shoulder bolts are installed on top mount as well.

KP Thanks for sharing and taking the time to point out these differences!

I believe from my observations that early NOS side covers have black screens regardless of the color, whether the paint is Candy BG or Candy RR, all of my early NOS non-dated  side covers have black screens, these are still in Honda boxes and bags. I am sticking with black screens on my bikes, as I believe that to be correct for early bikes.

One other note, all the early side covers the I have observed have much more color (overspray) on the insides of the covers, some are fairly well coated, most reproductions have just a light dusting of color on the inside areas.

As always, great insights KP!
I am attaching a pic of Sandcast 3223 original paint side cover, notice how much darker the paint is under the side emblem.. After 51 years, the paint under the unexposed emblem  has a darker hue.
I have a lot of NOS Candy Blue Green components, Tanks, (in box and wrapped in Honda bag), Airbox, fork ears, & side covers, that have never seen the light of day).
I think the NOS color is darker or it turns darker with age? Maybe the base coat darkens?
Yamiya's Candy BG paint is wonderful, but a shade lighter than my NOS items.
My thoughts on the topic.

Parts For Sale / Re: FOUR CABLE CARBS FOR SALE
« on: September 11, 2020, 05:31:58 am »
Al.
Pics help, these carbs are the single hump style carbs with 52mm choke lever.
These were fitted on Sandcast engines in the VIN range from around 1200- to 7414 and have the recall exchanged springs and caps fitted for the 6mm cables.

Hi Al,
You will need to post some pictures of the outsides of the carbs to show the the choke and clutch side views to help determine if they are Sandcast or K0 carbs. Picture of the tops would help as well.

eBay likes to change stuff just to annoy us all!

Are others outside the US able to open the link that I posted?

Best of luck on the sale KP!
Well worth the asking price,, being such any early produced Sandcast.
Someone is going to get a great early Sandcast, with all the correct parts  and it will appreciate way past selling price.

I am aligned with Chris, I have never seen spring guides in early carbs.

Sandcast 750 new owner will need to correct a few items, rear shocks, front fender stay bolts, oil lines & carb clamps. Will make someone a great bike. Good luck to DS as the VIN is COOL.

Any idea why the rear sprocket was changed?
Was this to enhance performance?
