I have received questions from various members about various parts fitted to what vins.

The question: What is the highest early vin early parts were fitted to?

Some early parts in question are:

1. pointerless kill knob
2. smooth fabric oil lines (smooth neck ferrule)
3. webbed fabric oil lines (smooth neck ferrule)
4. short neck brake lines
5. short neck fuel tap
6. 19 litre fuel tank
7. early seat pan with fewer vent holes and 6mm threaded hole
8. master cylinder with no level line within reservoir
9. caliper setting bolt with knurl finish on head
10. speedo/tach cables, short ring nut
11. "fat" fin exhaust clamp

I am asking owners of these early vins, please be so kind as to look at your bikes and report what early parts your bike has. Be sure to include your vin.

This reporting will aid in getting a better idea what vin these parts could have been last fitted.

To date members have reported:

1. pointerless kill knob fitted to vin as high as vin 441
2. smooth fabric oil lines (smooth neck ferrule) fitted to vin as high as vin UNKNOWN
3. webbed fabric oil lines (smooth neck ferrule) fitted to vin as high as vin UNKNOWN
4. short neck brake lines fitted as high as vin 302
5. short neck fuel tap fitted as high as vin 1937
6. 19 litre fuel tank fitted as high as vin 745
7. early seat with fewer vent holes in pan and a 6mm threaded hole vin UNKNOWN
8. master cylinder with no level line within reservoir fitted as high as vin 1256
9. caliper setting bolt with knurl finish fitted as high as vin 1256
10. speedo/tach cables short ring nut fitted as high as vin UNKNOWN
11. "fat" fin exhaust clamp fitted as high as vin UNKNOWN

OWNERS OF EARLY VINS, PLEASE HELP THIS RESEARCH EFFORT.

Gathering this information helps us all.

Also, there are other early parts fitted to these early vins I have not listed. If you think of others, please post them.

The information you see above, is available for anyone to read in "Production Models" of the website.

Re: oil lines, some early machines had both feed/return lines smooth fabric. Other early vins had one smooth fabric line and one web fabric line. Please note if your bike has the same type line or one each of smooth and webbed fabric lines.

I'll offer up the first tidbits........on  ;D 325
It came with the 19 litre (not 745)
Also came with short ferrules on tach and speedo, short neck brake line and smooth oil lines (both) without crimped fittings.
Hope this helps.

Hi All, Ok I have a sandcast VIN No. 1853. It is very close to being as original as it left the factory. The exceptions are the seat cover, one sidecover, the mirrors and the master cylinder. As per Steve Swans questions:
1. Kill Knob has a pointer
3. Webbed Fabric, smooth ferrule oil lines (both of them
4. Short neck brake lines
5. Short neck fuel tap
6. 17 litre fuel tank
7. Seat pan has more holes like the later sandcasts
8. Not original
9. No knurl finish on Calliper Bolts
10. Short ring nut on speedo & tach cables
11. It has the fat fin exhaust clamp

Some questions for the gurus:
Im curious to know about the master cylinder fill line - I have one here without it which I was going to put on if it is correct.

Also, if the 17 litre tank has a short neck fuel tap, is the underside of the tank raised like the 19 litre one?

Additionally:
I have the original pipes on the bike with the 2.5mm Seams
Chrome bolt on the master cylinder oil bolt
Painted engine cases
Short choke lever on the carbs

Anything else and Im happy to report what I can.

Regards,
Steven.

Does anyone have an early throttle cable for the 28mm carb tops - I have the carb tops/rubbers etc. Even if it is a photo I would appreciate it. Mine were swapped out for the later ones.

Also has anyone had any experience/knowledge of rechroming carb slides? I think I might have a rough set of original ones which I would need to true and have rechromed if I used them.

Regards,
Steven.

I'm new to Hondas but I'll see if I can't add to the discussion. I have 1630/1682 Red
1. Has pointer on knob.
2. NA
3. Webbed fabric with smooth ferrule ( beyond salvage) both
4. Short neck brake lines
5. Short neck fuel tap
6. 17 litre w/ 4 dimples
7. missing seat
8. Level line in MC
9. ?
10. don't know what to compare to.
11. Thin style

also:
Original pipes w/ lotus insert.
Master Cylinder bolt too rusted to tell if chrome, but has rubber boot.
Painted head, cylinder, and cases.
Double cut fender with guide.
and 1 anomaly : horn mounted on the right.

Bike was a barn find and cannot verify originality. If there is anything else let me know.
