Title: Real matching numbers
Post by: CB75014 on April 10, 2017, 06:04:09 am
Hi,

In the book of John Wyatt "Original Honda CB 750" the author wrote page 62 : "Finally, no CB 750 I know of has ever had a matching frame and engine number  - so, reader, don't panic if you are trying to work out which bike you have."

I have been recording for 3 years VIN and engine numbers from ad's, web sites, real bikes...

On ebay UK a K0 "ex Wyatt" was for sale with "real matching numbers" below :

US 12/69   1014991   E1015015      Ebay
GB 12/69   1015020   E1015020   Ex J. Wyatt !!
US 12/69   1015196   E1015305      Ebay

So ?

in regards to vins, i suppose anything's possible from the factory.  but, never put it past people to make up what they want.  such as matching numbers.

True, unstamped engine cases were and are out there.
