French Sandcasts / A French Sandcast in series 15000 !
« on: April 25, 2023, 01:48:37 pm »
Hello for all,
I have just discovered that there were also 15000 series, this is the first French Sandcast discovered in the 15000 series, this is the engine number E-1015525.
We knew that there were 14000 and 17000 series but to discover that there were also 15000 series is really exceptional!
this engine was used in competition, and this explains why the crankshaft was cut and you will also notice that it has its famous 9/10 clutch cover with the tenth hole not drilled like the 14000 and 17000 series, and let's not forget that E-1007414 also had this same cover 9/10 !

« on: April 25, 2023, 10:48:46 am »
Hello for all,
I don't know if this topic has been discussed before on the forum?  The French air box have the particularity of having been equipped with a cover identical to that  on the front, on the other hand I do not know if it is only for the French market or for other countries in Europe or in Japan...

Hello for all,  :D

Who can confirm me if this wrinkle gas tank is a 19 liter ?  You will notice that it has no embossing on the two exteriors for the placement of the top of the carburettors...

Thanks
Gerard

Front End and Suspension / Re: Fork Oil Recommendation
« on: July 28, 2021, 04:32:23 am »
Hi :D

The fork of the CB750 was studied in 1968 by Japanese engineers to work with oil with a viscosity of SAE 10W30 for a quantity between 210 and 230ml or 220ml.
Personally, I use ATF Automatic Transmission Fluid oil which is much less sensitive to humidity than conventional oil. It is recommended to drain according to time or mileage.
Once a year seems to me to be ideal in order to hollow out the formation of mud and residues ...

I just came across this article ...

https://www.kb-style.fr/dossiers/honda-cb-750-k0-sandcast/honda-cb-750-k0-sandcast-history-and-specifications/

- The first 7414 machines from 1000001 to 1007414 are commonly referred to as CB750 Sandcast.
They are recognizable by their crankcases with a rough and coarse finish.
These housings are molded in a very slow dry process, by gravity.
To say that they are "sand-casting" is therefore a misnomer.

This guy seems to know what he is talking about and he says he took some information on the forum ... Have you already mentioned this subject of molding here?
Afterwards, it is very easy to pump informations that you have not found by yourself, even to draw your own conclusions in a article ...
I don't know anything about foundry ... Who can shed some light on this?

Hi,
When it happens like that, it's a smile :D and a good motivation for the future, happy for you!
I think with a lot of skill you will be able to straighten the bent cylinder block fins ... I had a cylinder head fin fully seated on top of the one below and managed to reassemble it fully and also to straighten a lot of twist fins on the cylinders ...
I take small oak wedges and I strike with a not too heavy hammer but the cylinder or the cylinder head must be free to move when one strikes to absorb the shocks of the hammer ... But it is important not that there is a crack start ... And do not count the time spent!
