The seller tainted bidder interest by putting a buy it now price after the auction had started. Putting on a buy it now revealed his bottom dollar sale price and removed the suspense. I'm confident saying the bike would have sold for more, had he not put on a buy it now. Also, in the beginning days of the ad, i don't recall a reserve price, but i could be wrong on that..........
Back in mid-2001, when i was actively looking for a sandcast, before i knew of 4363, i mis-bid on a red 6xxx vin out of Saskatchewan, the bike was nearly pristine, regularly ridden, 3rd owner, ALL original, correct, with 12k miles. Sold for $8750 and MUCH nicer than this bike. Not long after there was a b-g 44xx sandcast, complete, original, not running, not close to as clean as this bike just on ebay, it sold for $3900
I don't feel the final price of
this sandcast has to do
only with the current economic state as much as Ebay is fickle and viewer numbers and interest is dependant on variables one can only presume to exist. As well, i feel pictures and description as well as layout of the ad make a significant difference. Not sure that WHO is selling the bike makes that much difference, but am sure it does affect to some degree bidder interest and confidence.
However, i am also sure the current economic conditions do keep some from bidding who otherwise would not. But, i don't think these conditions hamper those who have money and desire to own.
