There are three types of “Sandcast” air cleaner cases. There are
both 2-hole and 3 - hole designs. The early sandcast air boxes
are held on to the frame by a bracket (stay) which attaches to
the air box top by 2 fixing points, whereas the later type has 3
fixing points. The 2 hole air box also has 2 variations. |

The "Early Production" 2 Hole air cleaner case has no "relief's"
or indents to provide clearance between the case and the frame
rails. In this case, clearance was limited resulting in cracked
cases. |

The "Mid Production" 2 - Hole air cleaner case did have
relief's, however they were not as wide and sweeping as the
later production relief's. Again, with the 2 - hole design and
early relief design, cracking was still an issue. |

The late production 3 - hole air cleaner case the differences
are obvious. 3 - hole mounting configuration. Wider, more
sweeping frame relief's. No depressions on inside of case for
mounting brackets. (stays) There are differences in the "stays",
detailed lower in this section. This robust new design was less
prone to interference issues and cracking. |
