I thought I might share this with you. I wanted to buy this decal given it's a NOS part, only problem is the postage charge quoted was US$26.29 Yes $26.29. I emailed the seller and asked if s/he could just send this to me in a normal postal envelope. No biggie to do that and would cost a few $$, but the message I got back was take it up with eBay as they do all my postage. Well I've had items sent to me many times in boxes that are about 10 times bigger than what's in them so I wasn't surprised at the charge for eBay packing. BUT, I was surprised at the sellers "couldn't give a f*#k" attitude to a buyer. I passed on the decal.
All too often in recent years. eBay is controlling every part of the buy and the sell AND how it's shipped. They already control Pay Pal so why not US postal. No wonder I'm selling surplus stuff outside eBay. SCREWED AGAIN

I was just gong to PM you Kerry about posting to Australia from the UK.

I recently sent some extremely rare CB450K0 NOS carb upgrade  parts to Australia via Royal Mail 'Tracked in the UK and Signed for in Aus.'  It's over a month since I sent them and no sign of delivery (cost £9.90 for a 60 gramme parcel). The tracking just shows 'in transit' and I have had to refund the guy his £70 plus postage. Royal Mail made me go though a seemingly never ending online form to attempt to recover a max of £50 GBP but say I will have to wait up to 3-months for a response back.

What's your experience with UK Royal Mail from UK -> Aus. please ? How is  the post handled at your end ... I assume Auspost takes over? Reluctantly, I have deleted Australia off my eBay listings as it's way too much hassle and expense if anything goes missing. Or can you suggest a more reliable delivery company for small items from UK to Aus ?

Hi Ash, over many many years I’ve never had an issue with Royal Mail or Oz Post. I think Royal Mail & Oz Post,  are excellent services, but things do go missing. I’ve had a few instances were items have gone astray. I do know that tracked items that hit Australia from overseas are recorded but generally if the tracking says “in transit” indicates it hasnt reached the country of destination.
Ash, in the last few years I make it a habit to photo my parcel address and the postal receipt before I send an item. I also lodge any item at the front desk at my local post office. This records on the tracking order as the first event. If I simply post the item in the letterbox, the first tracking record will be at the sorting facility. I do this for insurance but mainly for eBay so they can’t come back at me for a refund. As a seller, I view the transaction as completed at the point I’ve delived to the post office. I think you have been very generous to this buyer. If you are using eBay, just make a disclaimer that no responsibility will be taken for lost in transit items. Buyers for whatever reason, blame sellers for lost items and while it is understandable how a buyer feels IMHO, it isn’t right. Cheers mate. KP

Thanks Kerry, I refunded the guy because he was OK with me over not receiving the parts and I possibly chose the wrong service at the Post Office. The same parts I sold to guys in the US at the same time, I   shipped 'Tracked & Signed For' but this wasn't an option to Australia for some reason....It was 'either or' and I chose ''Signed For' instead of 'Tracked'  outside the UK. So lesson learned. It's not the money I lost as much the loss of really rare parts that bothers me.The parts were issued by Honda as a flat spot carburation fix for the CB450K0 Black Bomber in the late sixties and are virtually unobtainable apart from the stock that I have left. (They came from the same source as the pair of reported  p.p. CB750 carbs I got).

I don't know  if this is the case in other countries but  lots of our local Post Offices in the UK are closing and one of the reasons is that many people are paying for postage at checkout on eBay but still using the Post Offices as dropping off points. The Post Offices themselves get very little for doing this and miss out on the main sale of the postage . So now I always pay at the Post office but it's a bit of a pain compared with the eBay option. For example you have to obtain a paper receipt and manual type in the tracking reference into eBay and if you lose the bit of paper, it is much more difficult to make a claim, as the PO need a scan of it, in order to process your claim.

I  know this is not 'sandcast' (sorry Steve) related but if anyone on here has a CB450K0 I attach the quaint, typed instruction sheet issued by  Honda for the 450 carb upgrade kit. I donated the original typed copy  to David Silver for his museum's 'literature reading room'.

Yes Ash, eBay are taking over everything to do with selling. I’m no socialist but I am against these global monopolies putting these essentials all services out of business. I bought a Cycle mag recently for $20 and the postage was $35. Yep eBay pack and post. It’s big in the US but the monopoly is having a bit of trouble getter ng it to work here. You should have seen the box I received. It could have held a 2 racks of 750 carbs.
You can only hope like I do, that the parts turn up. Could be on a slow boat 🚣‍♂️ stopping all ports 😁

what's really nuts is the manual arrived may 7, to new york, was shipped to "sub-contractor" in los angeles, and then to "shipping partner" in new york, and then to "shipping partner" in los angeles and then to "shipping partner in sparks, nevada, May 9, and waiting transfer from "shipping partner" to usps.  and to think there used to be a fuel shortage, and for 10 years interstate speed limits were 55 mph for 14 years, 1974-1987.
