I'll guess $24,000 on this one, if it sells.

Yep I had a few bids and got a reply from eBay saying the following. Don't know what the issue actually was but I suspect the reference to other items for sale. Interesting to say the least
-- The listing doesn't follow eBay guidelines.
-- The item isn't allowed on eBay or can only be listed under certain conditions.
-- The listing contains pictures or words that may create copyright or trademark issues

I don't believe this is the original seat as the yellow foam used in the construction of the sandcast seats was a later feature. I believe that sandcast seats were all red foam block without the yellow foam. Of course it could have been added so as to bolster the crumbling red foam. Just my thoughts. Anyone have another view  ??? Also the nuts that hold the hinges I understood don't have any marking on the bolt heads. I can barely make it out but I think the heads have a marking on them.

KP, I'm inclined to agree with you that the seat hinge bolts do indeed have what appears to be an "8" on them. I just pulled the hinges off of the seat from 576 and the bolts did not have any markings on the heads. Regretfully, I broke a couple getting them out!  :(

I agree perfectly with You, Kerry.
My vin 1086, that i think unmolested, arrived with few hole seat, obviously red foam, collapsed but red foam.
I think that a low vin, as this 397, must have the few hole seat.
