VIN's / Engine Case Stamping Charactors
« on: April 02, 2014, 04:37:36 am »
Starting new discussion-

The earlier sandcast engines only have a two digit date (month & date) and E1 on the back of the top case but do not have the "T" as shown in this photo (see attached)
When did the T charactor start to appear? Was this added in later production moths? Where theses cases cast at a different factory or different time period? Was the "T" used for replacement cases sent to dealers or did it appear in normal production?
I know the two engines that I own do not have this additional charactor on the cases and mine were both Sandcast in June.
Can someone with an engine cast after June weigh in on the "T" casting charactor.....do other production sandcast engines have T  charactor on their cases?
Thanks for any help,
Duane

Engine - Cosmetic Only / Webbed Fabric Smooth Ferule Oil Line Color
« on: March 22, 2014, 06:19:11 pm »
Hi All -
I may not be posting this in the correct place, but this is an engine cosmetic question. I own a mid-vin sandy with smooth ferules and webbed fabric oil line.
My oil lines are faded silver and I was wondering if anyone has found a good method to dye or paint the webbed fabric oil lines back to their original black color?
See attached photo.
I appreciate any advice or help.

Parts Wanted / WTB Diecast Engine
« on: March 12, 2014, 05:42:51 am »
Hi- I am looking for a complete engine for a January 1970 built Diecast K0 with frame 204xx and I  WTB or trade for complete engine or good engine cases for a motor number between 19500-21000 (ideal) but would consider any engine numbers close to this range. Just purchased this bike and it is fitted with engine 374xx so I would like to get it back to the correct VIN range.
Thanks for any help.

Gauges - Levers and Cables / Sandcast and Diecast gauge colors
« on: February 15, 2014, 12:21:21 pm »
Does anyone know when the gauge faces, specifically the tachometers changed to the green color instead of redline color? I see a lot of supposed green gauge faces advertised as Sandcast gauges. My 70 K0 has the green faces and my Sandact has the redline tachometer face. Are the green faces on the 70 K0 tach just faded?
