Hi Benelli,
which CB you like to ride the most ?
350 was too weak for me, 750 has great engine, but suspension seams to be little bit behind engine. And 500cc seems to be good package.
Great that you went through all 750 range from K0 to K8, its exiting to see development and changes during CB production.
Best you can see it on frame welding quality.

General Discussion / Re: Covering on Original Levers
« on: November 28, 2020, 03:01:15 pm »
Quite interesting this mystery was just not clarified earlier. Dipping lever to any plastic maybe sounds strange, but this special "coat" goes all around rounded leverī  end nicely, so it is closed at the end. So hard to say this could be made by plastic tube.
On the other hand, dipping would make any casting mark ( but there are no signs of it) and this process needs propably more time in production than to heat any stretching  closed one side tube.......
Even dipping, or even tube, Iī m wondering what makes this coat so hard and keeping its shape even the moisture gets inside of it, so just not sticked perfect on the lever.

ok.........  dammit.  i wrote a somewhat long post regarding this picture and computer lost what i wrote, can't take the time to write it over again.  (need a new computer)

interesting poster given to me over 10 years ago.  the bike pictured in this poster is what i understand a "K0" transitional model to be, a model made BEFORE the K1 issued.  (notice, there appears no rubber boot on the #1 fulcrum.)  anyone seen this poster before ?

my understanding, the"K0" essentially is a CB750 with the fulcrum operated (K1 type) carburetors and 1969-70 type CB750 side covers, duck tail seat and plastic gauges.

Would be nice to see more pics of the "May bike" and know the frame/engine vins.  certainly looks, as our friend KP says, "the real meal deal."

the advertisement Gerard posted could be a "K0" but not enough pictures and no vins to decide.

Steve, this picture/poster was used on 1970 Honda motorcycle range japanese brochure.
But please note, that many companies are using also not serial produced bikes for pictures to brochures. This is still till nowadays.

Hi Gerard,
thanks for images, I missed these on the beginning.
I would understand, if Honda will use sandcast cases which were left in Honda stock. But Iīm still wondering while Honda will produce another clutch case 9/10.
Your theory of 300 bikes produced in begiining of 14xxx and beginning of 17xxx seems to be most reasonable.

Steve:
I was answering your question: "Have any 14xxx-17xxx vin sandcasts been discovered in Germany ?"

It is not possible, while bikes for France had to be just for France to pass regulation for lighting and so on. So these canīt appear in  Germany or other countries, while they have different model of CB750.

Gerard:
same about that 14xxx-17xxx would be for UK. There were just officially imported bikes from frame number 10xxx and especially UK CB750s were different than bikes for another countries. So hard to be possible.

Strange there is so big spread among 14xxx and 17xxx. Hard to beleive, that Honda will make 3000 bikes with snadcast cases, or just to replace random diecast series with sandcast cases. And question is, why Honda would make any special new clutch cover9/10? It has no sence. It costs money and time.
It would be nice to see any really completely original french snadcast CB750, not restored, not modified. I think this could be only proof that Honda did it, not local importer or dealer, or customers.

Steve:
French CB750 were different from german sandcast, so no german bikes. French K0 were specific just for France. There were several versions of CB750 for europian countries with small differences in some parts. So there were about 6-7 sandcasts versions on the world. First sold sandcasts to public came to France in August 69.
Only very first bikes were imported to France via german port. All first Honda bikes for all EU countries were imported through Germany, untill the Benelux EU headoffice was found about beginning of 60ī.
That is why, the very first EU sandcast introduction was in February 69 in Holland. Later in France and than in UK.

General Discussion / Re: VIN and Engine Number Spread

steve: " i have not looked at this website in years, i found it again. very interesting, doubtful the mockup exists - http://www.motorcycleclassics.com/classic-japanese-motorcycles/kawasaki-z1-prototype.aspx "

Yes, if Kawasaki was little quicker, maybe the icon will be that Z750. Not sure if that is true, but I have read in some book that Kawasaki wanted to introduce the bike in beginning of 1969, but Honda was quicker - late 1968. So Kawasaki decided to stop this project and to develop and introduced something better - Z1 900........

Several months ago Kawasaki introduced Ninja H2R, which will be very difficult to overtake, even for Honda.

I think theory of odd and even numbers, while original sandcast 889 and 1095 were red and 446 was b-g.
I agree with Steve, I think also there were more b-g bikes.
Question is, how these bikes (colours) were produced on assambly line.

Locking fuel match is very common "mistake"
Not sure, but the choke arm doesnīt look like long one.
Generally VIN nr.750 on CB750 is really great!

I like sellerīs  fairytale about why he should sell the bike, and why he has "0" feedback. Usually low feedback have traffickers selling many bikes together, and donīt want anybody knows it. In the backround of one picture is CB500 and Z1. Also have to sell?

Review of VIN'S For Directory / Re: 7/E90 now in VIN Directory
« on: March 22, 2016, 02:31:25 pm »
4pots1969 and some others:
just for explanation. In our VIN directory is Sandcast 69/E53. What I know this bike was build together from different parts found anywhere. It means, that only frame 69 alone was found in Germany and engine nr.53 was found in US. Sorry, it is not original sandcast for me. It is just package of spare parts.
I just would like to know, how many sandcasts from VIN directory are truly original complete ones, that were originaly sold as a complete bikes by any Honda dealer.

When talking about this 7/E90. For me another little mystery is, that it was registered 3/3/1970. What we have information, first batch of CB750 was delivered to US in June 1969. So where was this bike sitting for 10 month? Also why it was reregistered again in 1973, while as actual owner had said, it should be in the family since end of 1969. It means, that the first owner had never registered this amazing bike? And second owner had it registered in 3/3/1970 and than same owner registered it in 1973 again??? OK, maybe it is true, but it sounds little bit strange to me. Especially, while this 7/E90 bike has some parts from K1. I would not be surprised, if this bike will be for sale during short time......

4pots1969 and kp: ofcourse first registration doesnīt mean production. But I was talking, that certificate we can see, was issued in 1973, so we canīt see original certificate from1970.
There are some changes on this sandcast, so I was only talking, that it would be good to see also purchase contract, where will be seen also original engine number for bike with VIN nr.7. Just my personal view is, that engine nr.90 is too high for bike nr.7.
Our VIN directory is not 100% certain proof of sandcasts, while many of them have not original engine or frame installed, or some sandcasts from our VIN directory were put together just from parts, so totaly no originality.
Sorry, if my opinion is radical, but it is just my personal view. And Iīm not only one who is thinking it.

In this title is not engine number and even this title was issued in 1973, so this is not original first title. If we will not see purchase contract or first title, we can only discuss about originality of this bike.
