According to the research of Bojje Fredin there was ca 18 Sandcasts coming directly to Sweden. Later on some had been imported and today itīs around 25 of them in our country. Later bikes coming to Sweden I think was of General Export type, but I donīt know about the Sandcasts. At least I know the sandcasts was not of German type as the "winkers" and rear light bracket was the same as for example USA.

A clearly difference from USA-Sandcasts is that the Swedish sandcast bikes have the stamped VIN-number on the right side of the steering head.

The Sandcasts coming directly from Honda to Sweden are 2 within the range of #2xxx, 6 in #3xxx, and 10 in #5xxx.

Interesting!

I have the engine #7384 wich is quite late. Bought it from Germany (Sandguss on Ebay) and paired it with my #5128 frame as the frame was equippped with a diecast engine when i bought it. I didnīt ask Sandguss about any paired frame to the engine so I can not supply any such info.

Another question that I have is my Sandcastfriend here in Sweden Bo Göran Fredin who speaks about #7414 in this thread this year.

I have not met him lately to ask and I donīt know if he visisting our website freqently?

Hi again and thanks for the new thread!

No problem with the keen and critical restorers eye, thats why we discuss this type of matter and thats the most fun in restoring the bikes!

Maybe the paint on my carbs could be taken away with other methods, but I had already blasted the wheel hubs and other things an they looked almost new after that. For me it was a easy choice to test soda on the carbs and it came out quite well.

The pictures are taken with flash so they appear a little more white and flatter than they are IRL. Though I dont think you could see much of a iridescent effect as on new carbs and like aluminium parts often are. Maybe the soda will affect very very very slightly just enough to take away the iridescent effect but even if you look closely you could not see a kind of blasted surface, its more like superclean. I would love to find a method to give back the iridescent effect, but I donīt have those Gunk stuff here in Sweden to test.

I attach another carb picture but it is also taken with a cameraflash. (I know the bowls are the later ones, they are changed now).

Donīt want to steal Marks thread but Iīll answer this one.

No I have not soda blast the bowls cause i didn't have to. I polished them a little later in the assembly progress.
I think they should have been as clean as the rest of the carbs. Soda blast will not affect the surface but it will take away semihard things like paint, and dirt. It will not affect things like plastic because thats kind of both soft and hard. There is plastic in the choke parts and the only became clean. Like they said back in the year of our bikes "Try it youīll like it"  :)

I could see that it looks little like changed texture on the second picture but I think there is still powder on it, it was newly blasted as you could se from the powder rigth below. The texture is totally unchanged when you see it live.

Yes, It was just soda blasted. I have to say I was amazed by the result. Iīll attach a couple of photos of  the same carburators during the blast.

Soda blasting is perfect on aluminum and will not alter the texture, it will only be very clean. You could use it on gasket surfaces or inside a carburator with no harm att all. You could rinse excessive soda with water.

I just bought a very cheap blasting gun and blasting soda, put it into a bucket and started to blast outside. I also blasted the crankcases and they became very clean but not with an altered texture at all.

My carbs was painted red for some reason. I sodablasted them and after that they became quite bright, almost like new aluminum.
I attach a picture, as you maybe can see there is still some red paint left in small corners.

Canīt wait to see pictures from the Peterson museum!
