Member's Bikes / My first Sandy
« on: October 07, 2012, 11:40:11 am »
Hi, This summer I finished the first part of ground up restoration of my Sandcast 1005084 (engine 1004957). Most parts are correct except for the biggest fault, it is an early diecast engine. The sandcast engine is still in my garage and needs som serious welding due to the common chain brake problem, otherwise I have all the engine parts. The gauges and the seat will be changed to next summer, otherwise it is quite correct. Itīs running very well and looks good.

I have already started my next Sandy project -1005321. I have a good Sandcast engine to that frame but not the original, itīs one of the latest (1007384) and the rebuilding of that one has already started.

Hi from Sweden,

Hi, regarding vnz00 and hondasan speaking about the shock brackets. I try to attach a couple of pictures from my K2-frame and one from my newly started restoration of  my second Sandy - 1005321. You can clearly see the differences from bracket length (short is Sandcast) and radius (on K2-bracket). I also have a frame with the short bracket with no 1025997 so it should be possible to get one of this early frames on Ebay to marry your front end.

Good luck!

Scammers and Forgeries / Brake calipers on Ebay

Hi, What about this and two other Sandcast Calipers from this seller
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CB750-1969-70-SANDCAST-2965-FRONT-CALIPER-BRAKE-CAFE-RACER-GENUINE-AUTHENTIC-A-/230774159813?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item35bb3639c5#ht_500wt_715
Iīm not sure if there is Tokico without numbers (looks like all are sandblasted) and the frame number picture also looks suspicious. He is referring to three separate sandcasts which he is "parting out". Also take a look at the "recessed" igniton

Hi again,

I try to attach a file that shows everything you need. This is a cylinder head from a 1970 but should look almost the same as a sandcast head.
The camtower lays on its side to show the bottom part with one rubber still sticking to the tower, two other rubber seals are also shown on the head, One in its correct position and the other slightly beside the hole for the bolts. You can also see one of the bolts laying down on the photo. The bolt goes in the hole to help tighten cylinder and head. The rubber is sealing the oil from going down in the hole and out in the fins area.

Not easy to explain this, especially in another language than my own, hope the picture will tell more than the words. If this is the reason fror the leak, you have to pull the motor out of the frame, unscrew the camcover and dismount the camshaft and camtowers to be able to change the rubber seals.

Hi, could be the small rubber seals (nickels) under the camtowers. There is four 10mm bolts that hide under the rubber seals to help tighten the cylinder and head together. If the seal is leaking, the oil will go down in the fins area of the head. Depending on which rubber seal is leaking, the oil will come from four possible places.
